5 Things We Learned About Week 4 In College Football
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The College football TV ratings have drastically increased since they implemented the 4-team playoff system in 2014. Although college football is gaining in popularity, the facts are clear. There is no longer parity. Only 4 active coaches have won a National Championship.

  • Nick Saban- 6 Titles (5 with Alabama, 1 with LSU).
  • Urban Meyer- 3 Titles. (2 with Florida, 1 with Ohio State University).
  • Dabo Swinney- 1 Title with Clemson University.
  • Jimbo Fisher- 1 Title with Florida State University.

3 of these four coaches will be back in the Final Four at the end of the season.

5 Things we learned about week 4 in College Football”

5) Scott Frost You are not in Kansas (South Florida Anymore): Coach Frost led UCF to a 13-0 record last year. He went back home to Nebraska to become the their teams head coach. Frost played at Nebraska and said that it was his “dream coaching job.” The dream has turned into a nightmare. UCF is ranked #16 in the country and have a record of 3-0. Nebraska is 0-3 ans lost to #19 Michigan 56-10. It was 39 to 0 at halftime. I like Coach Frost and I will never question someone for going back home. I believe he will turn the Cornhuskers around. But, sometimes the grass is not always greener on the other side. Nebraska is 0-3 for the first time since 1945.

4) It is time for #3 Clemson to start Freshmen, Trevor Lawrence at Quarterback: Lawrence was 13 for 18 for 176 yards and 4 touchdowns in the Tigers win over Georgia Tech. Lawrence is 6’6 220 lbs. and can make all the throws NFL quarterbacks make and he can run the ball. He is an upgrade at quarterback from Kelly Bryant. It is only a matter of time before Clemson names Lawrence the full-time starter.

#3) Texas and Texas Tech enter the top 25: #18 Texas and #25 Texas Tech both had impressive wins over the weekend. The Longhorns dominated #16 TCU 31-16. The Red Raiders upset #15 Oklahoma State 41-17. Both coaches, Tom Herman and Kliff Kingsbury have been on the “hot-seat.” The critics should be quiet, at least for one week. Both deserve to be in the top 25.

#2) Are the 2018, Alabama Crimson Tide, the greatest team ever?

Alabama is coming off a National Championship last year. They are ranked #1 in the nation and defeated #22 ranked Texas A&M 45-23. They lead 31-13 at halftime and cruised to an easy win. Nick Saban is now 13-0 against his former assistant coaches. In three games this season, Alabama has outscored their opponents, 148-20 in the first half. This is the best offensive team Saban has ever had.

#1) The Kentucky Wildcats are on the college football map:

Since 1978, The Wildcats have had two seasons in which they went 8-5. They accomplished this feat in 2006 and 2007, under head coach Rich Brooks. That was the best record they have had in 40 years. All that might change in 2018. For the first time since 1950, Kentucky is 4-0. Head coach, Mark Stoops has this team playing hard, smart and physical. Kentucky running back,Benny Snell, rushed for 164 yards and 4 touchdowns to help lead his team to a 28-7 victory over #14 Mississippi State. He should be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. The Wildcats should win 9 or 10 games.

Bonus Coverage:

#20 Oregon was up 24-7 over #7 Stanford at half-time Saturday night. The Ducks lost the game 38-31 in overtime. Bad officiating, costly turnovers and conservative play calling cost the Ducks an upset victory. The Ducks should win 8 or 9 games and quarterback Justin Herbert was 26 for 33, 346 yards and 1 touchdown pass. Herbert should be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He has the strongest arm I have seen, since John Elway.

The Ducks have continued to struggle since Marcus Mariota left the team for the NFL.

Since 2015 The Ducks are:

  • 13-15 in the PAC-12
  • 8-7 at home.
  • 3-9 vs ranked teams

Old Dominion who was 0-3 upset #13 Virginia Tech 49-35.

After losing their opening game to LSU, 33-17. The Miami Hurricanes have won three games in a row and have scored 77, 49 and 31 points.
