5 Things We Learned About College Football:

#1 Alabama continues to dominate weaker teams:

The Alabama Crimson Tide defeated Southern Miss, 63-14. Alabama was up 42-7. No team dominates lesser opponents like Nick Saban does year in and year out.  Alabama has won 100 consecutive games against unranked opponents. Saban never lets up on his players and his team never has a bad game.

#16 Arkansas is for real :

The Arkansas Razorbacks went into Texas and upset the #7 Texas A&M Aggies, 20-10. The Razorbacks were the better team from start to finish in this one. They snapped the Aggies 11 game win streak. Arkansas outgained Texas A&M 443 yards to 272. The Razorbacks are 4-0 but travel to #2 Georgia next week. The Bulldogs should win the game. I expect Arkansas to finish the season ranked in the top 15. That will be a great accomplishment.

#12 Notre Dame… A final four team?

The #13 Fighting Irish dominated the #18 Badgers, 41-13 at Soldier Field.  The Irish are now 3-0 on the season. They will be ranked in the Top 10 this week but faceoff against #8 Cincinnati next weekend. Brian Kelly became the winningest coach in program history. The victory was Kelly’s 106th of his career at Notre Dame, breaking the previous record of 105 victories set by legendary coach and 1951 College Football Hall of Fame inductee Knute Rockne. If Kelly can win next Saturday, this team could go undefeated.

Is Iowa the best team in the Big 10?

#5 Iowa started off slow but outscored Colorado State 17-0 in the second half to win the game, 24-14. Kirk Ferentz continues to be the most underrated coach in college football. Iowa has won 10 straight games and 15 games out of conference. That is the longest streak in college football. This team does not beat themselves, they are always prepared and have an elite defense.

#9 Clemson loses to NC State:

NC State missed 3 FG’s before beating Clemson, 27-21 in double overtime. The WolfPack lost 8 straight and 15 of 16 meetings to the Tigers. This Clemson team can play defense but their offense has no identity and can’t move the ball consistently. They had 214 total yards on offense. For the first time in six years, Clemson finds itself outside the College Football Playoff race. Dabo Swinney’s team is now 2-2, no two-loss team has ever made the college football playoffs.

Extra Point:

#14 Iowa State was the most overrated team coming into the season. Matt Campbell is now 2-2 after losing to Baylor 31-29. Campbell has a 37-30 record as the Cyclones head coach.

Do not be surprised if Rutgers pulls the upset over #10 Ohio State next weekend in New Jersey

#22 Fresno State will finish the season as a top 15 team. They beat UNLV on Saturday, 38-30.

#3 Oregon faces off against #24 UCLA on October 23rd. The winner of that game should take the PAC-12.

Montes Top 5 :

5) Oklahoma

4) Iowa

3) Oregon

2) Georgia

1) Alabama
