The 2026 NFL season still has a few games left, but the writing could be on the wall for some of these starting QBs. Who could be the top QBs to find a new team next year?
Tua Tagovailoa
Tua has struggled for the Miami Dolphins, leading to his eventual benching for the rookie QB Quinn Ewers. It’s never a good sign when your franchise QB gets benched for a rookie. There are rumors that his struggles go beyond the product on the field, and there’s no clear sign of hope in Miami. The Dolphins are stuck with a tough contract they might not have an easy way out of, but look for Mike McDaniel to get a chance to prove himself for one more season with a new QB before the team ultimately cuts him loose.
Joe Burrow
This is almost laughable, but the fact of the matter is, Joe Burrow deserves better than what the Cincinnati Bengals are giving him. The Bengals are only beaten out by the Cleveland Browns for the worst in the division, and their defense is the leading cause. As ridiculous as it may sound, it might be in their best interest to trade their star QB. They can stockpile some much-needed picks to help bolster their defense because they’re wasting some of Burrow’s best years. It would be wise to find a veteran quarterback who could take the reins while they stock up on talent they won’t find in one offseason.
Anthony Richardson
Richardson has talent, no doubt about it. The problem is he can’t turn that talent into success. When Daniel Jones stepped in and proved the team could win with him at QB, it also highlighted Richardson’s struggles. Jones has had his fair share of struggles throughout his career, but he’s making a name for himself in Indianapolis. If the Colts feel like Richardson can’t develop, they might just cut bait early.
Daniel Jones
Speaking of Daniel Jones, if the Colts shy away from a deal because of his injury, there will be plenty of teams that come calling this offseason. Jones might not have the confidence of some teams in his ability to be a franchise quarterback, but others will realize he could be exactly what they need to move forward and develop a rookie quarterback. Jones can do enough to allow teams to make significant moves on draft day while still not throwing away an entire season.
Kyler Murray
It’s time. It’s time for the Arizona Cardinals to move on from the Kyler Murray experiment. He’s got a great dynamic about his gameplay, but he’s just not a winner. His injury concerns are stacking up, and Arizona is in no position to keep hoping he’ll eventually get to the next level. There’s talent in Arizona, but inconsistency is what’s holding the team back. They might not get a huge haul in return, but it’s time to hit the reset button and hope for something better to come along.
Carson Wentz
Wentz has been relegated to a backup quarterback option. To be quite frank, the only reason he made this list is the injury to Patrick Mahomes. With Mahomes needing significant time to recover, 9-12 months, he’d be out somewhere between September to December with no setbacks. However, for a scrambling QB, look for that to be pushed to the latter of the two. Wentz has experience in Kansas City, and there are limited options in 2026. Could we see Wentz reunite with the Chiefs?
The 2026 NFL offseason could push teams into desperation mode. Who will make the strongest push for a new QB in free agency? Plenty of teams will need quarterbacks.
