The Green Bay Packers are at crossroads. They are dealing with a high-profile, elite quarterback, who has outgrown Green Bay and what they are selling. We have seen Aaron Rodgers this off-season host Jeopardy, Travel with his fiancé to Hawaii, and play golf. In a rematch of sorts of last season’s NFC Championship Game that played out on the links of Montana rather than the gridiron of Lambeau Field, Aaron Rodgers sank a putt on the 16th hole Tuesday to lift him and teammate Bryson DeChambeau to a 3 and 2 win over Tom Brady and Phil Mickelson in The Match charity golf event.
Green Bay takes pride in being a lunch pail to work city, Beer, and Blue Jeans. How many times have we seen Packers Center; David Bakhtiari chug a beer at a Milwaukee Bucks game?
For years, Brett Favre, the former Packers quarterback, was doing Wrangler Jeans commercials. This is what Green Bay is, “Blue-collar.”This is not what Aaron Rodgers is. He is bigger than that.
Over the past few years, the NFL has implemented dozens of rule changes to favor the offense. It is now an uneven playing field. Defense and running the ball no longer win teams a championship. The top 4 teams remaining in the NFL last season were all ranked in the top 6 in points scored.
- The Packers were No.1 in the NFL, scoring 31.8 points per game.
- The Bills were No. 2 in the NFL, scoring 31.3 points per game.
- The Bucs were No.3 in the NFL, scoring 30.8 points per game.
- The Chiefs were No.6 in the NFL, scoring 29.6 points per game.
We have seen numerous teams help their quarterbacks by adding players via trade or free agency.
- The Arizona Cardinals acquired DeAndre Hopkins to help quarterback Kyler Murray.
- The Buffalo Bills acquired Stefon Diggs to help quarterback Josh Allen.
- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added Leonard Fournette, Rob Gronkowski, and Antonio Brown to make Tom Brady’s professional life easier.
The Packers have not done this once since Aaron Rodgers became the starter. The last skill position player Green Bay drafted, that was not a quarterback in the first round, was Javon Walker in 2002 at No. 20 overall.
Aaron Rodgers is a Super Bowl MVP and 3-time NFL MVP. He is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He has done everything to help the Packers win but Green Bay has not done right by him. I root for the Packers every Sunday, but I want Rodgers to move on. Sorry Wisconsin fans, he is just not that into you.
