The cast of Yellowstone was a diverse and complicated one, to say the least. John Dutton was the leader. Rip was the enforcer. Kayce was the heart, Jamie was the villain, and then you have the glue to them all, and that was Beth Dutton.
But for some reason, Beth was not well-liked. I can’t wrap my head around the fact that some people don’t like Beth. Maybe she’s too outspoken. It could be that she caused too many issues. She’s too emotional. Whatever it is, her character drew heavy criticism, especially from men. But not this one.
I’ve admired Beth since the moment she came across my television. It didn’t hit me why until I had a conversation with a female friend who broke down the reason why I was drawn to her character.
I was asked to examine the type of women I’ve dated. I was stuck. I couldn’t see where she was going with that question. But then it hit me. I like my women strong-willed, focused, loyal, and willing to do whatever for the ones they love. That’s Beth’s character in a nutshell on Yellowstone. Yes, she tends to go a bit overboard with things but she does so with good intentions. No one, and I mean no one is going to screw with her family.
Beth grew up around nothing but men following her mother’s death. And not just any men, she grew up around Cowboys. She idolized a father who at times held a grudge against her. She had a mother who made things tough on her. One brother who was not around that much and one who took everything from her. Beth grew up rough. But she had no choice.
Women love Beth because there is a piece of Beth in all of them. However, most of them have been afraid to let her out for fear of how they will be perceived. As for the men, well, that’s where things can get a bit complicated.
If you’re a man who looks for a submissive woman, Beth is not for you. If you’re looking for a woman who will challenge or question you, then Beth is not for you. But if you’re looking for a woman who has a mind of her own, not afraid to speak, and will kill for you, then Beth is your Queen.
On Yellowstone, Beth gets what she wants by force or by brain. But three people can reach the soft side of her. Rip is one. Despite their troubled past, Rip is the love of her life. Beth is hard to take but Rip is one of the guys not related to her who can calm that beast she has inside.
The other man is her brother Kayce. Name one Yellowstone scene where Beth went off on Kayce. She has such a high level of respect for her brother that it often goes unnoticed. Hell, Beth doesn’t even talk shit to Kayce’s wife as she does every other woman she has crossed paths with. She respects the hell out of her brother.
Then there is her father. They share a weird relationship but for Beth, there is no greater man. She loved her dad and while Jamie looks for his approval, Beth wants his love and she’s not against going toe-to-toe with him. It’s done out of love and never a forceful challenge.
As for Jamie, she’s always hated him. Some fans of Yellowstone believe that Beth goes overboard when it comes to him but how? Because of Jamie, Beth can’t have kids. Because of Jamie, Beth almost dies in an explosion. Because of Jamie, her father was taken from her.
And yet, most still don’t like her. When I first heard it, I was taken aback but I just started binging the show and I was waiting for these Monday’s to arrive where I could agree with that assessment. But it never came. All I saw was a women willing to do whatever to keep the ones she loved safe.
Here is how it goes. Beth didn’t give a damn about the Ranch. She planned to give it all to Kayce and she could walk away. Before the series finale, Casey told her he didn’t have any money, Beth replied by saying “yes you do, you have $30M.” Right there was just added proof for her love for her brother.
Beth was never the villain on Yellowstone. She was the hero. The one who gave everything to make sure the people she loved were ok. women love her because some want to be her. Men hate her because they can’t control her. Beth was by far my favorite character on Yellowstone.
