After suffering an embarrassing 14-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, The New York Yankees are making a big splash in the transfer market before the deadline tomorrow at 4 p.m. est. Within the last twenty-four hours, the Yankees have acquired Outfielder Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers and first baseman Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs.
Gallo made his second All-Star appearance in his 7-year-career with the Rangers this season, also being named a participant in this year’s Homerun Derby. Gallo has a batting average of .223 this season but has 25 Home Runs and 55 RBI’s this season.

The Nevada native will look to add some much-needed juice into the Yankee lineup as the Bronx Bombers have not been doing a lot of bombing this season. With an outfield that already consists of Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Staton, it will be interesting to see where Gallo fits in the Yankee lineup.
Rizzo will be joining the Yankees after 9 years with the Cubs. Rizzo, a 3 Time All-Star, will be adding another big bat to the lineup, as well as depth at first base. Rizzo has a current batting average of .248 with 14 HRs and 40 RBI’s.

The move from Wrigley to Yankee Stadium will see Rizzo slide into contention for the starting first baseman once Luke Voit returns from injury. That will see infielder D.J LeMahieu be moved back to second base full time, affecting Rougned Odor’s playing time on the field.
With one day remaining before the trade deadline, the Yankees are still in the market for another infielder and pitching. A big name surrounding the team is Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, who has been linked with a move to New York for weeks.
The Yankees currently sit in 3rd place in the American League East, 9 games behind the division-leading Boston Red Sox and 3 games back in the Wild Card chase. It’s safe to say the Yankees’ ambition to make the playoffs is still intact, the question remains will they be able to play good baseball throughout the course of the season.
