The New York Yankees were finally able to get off their slide against the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday night. The Yankees won 5-3, beating Tampa for only the second time all season and snapping a six-game losing streak against the Rays. After the last out, the game became a secondary story.
Aroldis Chapman was looking to lock down his first save of the season. After getting two quick outs, Chapman threw a fastball over the head of Mike Brosseau. The Rays took exception to the errant fastball and let their displeasure known. Chapman would eventually strike out Brosseau, but that wasn’t the end of the night as then the benches cleared.
All in all, it was just a lot of chirping back and forth. In fact, the two teams really didn’t get too close to each other. In 2020, the teams staying apart becomes a big deal because with MLB trying to get through their season during the COVID pandemic, if there would have been a brawl, suspensions would have been hefty.
Rays manager Kevin Cash was less than pleased after the game.
Here’s the full #Rays Cash quote: “I can assure you, other than three years ago, there hasn’t been one pitch thrown with intent from any of our guys. Somebody has to be accountable and the last thing I’ll say is I have a whole damn stable full of guys that throw 98 mph.”

Now while you want your manager to defend his players, Cash’s comments are on the verge of reckless. The Yankees and Rays have had a budding rivalry of late, and this wouldn’t be the first incident between the Yankees and Rays. We all remember the famous CC Sabathia quote of “That’s for you bitch!”.
The final game of their midweek (and season) series is scheduled for tonight at 7. The Yankees need to win tonight to try to keep up with the Rays in the division. After last night’s ending, it gives fans all the more reason to tune in.
