The opening week of the WNBAs 2022 season saw plenty noteworthy occurrences from players ingratiating themselves with new teams, rookies showing out, and new coaches laying their foundations. Coming into week 2, here’s how my week power ranks shape up.
Week 1 Power Rankings 🏀⤵️
1.) Chicago Sky (2-1) Last Week: 1st
The reigning champs have had impressive stretches to start, seeing impactful play from Meesseman-Evans-Gardner + the return of sniper Allie Quigley on Sunday. Lastly, they now await the on-court return of lightening rod & F-MVP Kahleah Copper as her return to the W from overseas dominance looms
2.) Las Vegas Aces (4-1) Last Week: 2nd
The polarizing Aces are standing on business early. Their evolved & now modern style of play see’s a team with plenty versatility use their pieces in a more dynamic manner. They’re leading in 3p% at 43% & are 4th in 3PA’s at 22.8.
3.) Washington Mystics (4-1) Last Week: N/A
Already with some convincing point differentials under their belts, including an all-impressive win over the Aces, the Mystics are staking their claim amongst the leagues heirarchy, demanding attention. A lot is contingent upon Delle Donne & her health but as history’s shown, as she’s been fine so has their team.
4.) Connecticut Sun (2-1) Last Week: 4th
The Sun saw the return of Courtney Williams (suspension) & DeWanna Bonner (overseas) last night, having to presences on the glass (to a team already leading there on percentage) + presences to uphold their “push pace” evolution as head coach Curt Miller suggested, will be all-intriguing.
5.) Atlanta Dream (4-1) Last Week: N/A
The trade up is paying off & then some, as acquiring position to draft talented rookie, and player of the week, Rhyne Howard is paying impactful dividends early. They’re showing plenty promise & have a very positive energy around them in this new rendition.
