Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has made it very clear he is not taking his current legal situation seriously. At a USA Basketball practice Monday, Green was asked about the situation and if change is needed. Green responded with “Being me has gotten me this far.” He also had a large grin on his face while the words were being said.
It may be just me, but if I had a pending assault and battery charge on me, I would not be smiling. Nor would I be claiming there needs to be no change in my life, actions, or personality. It is like he is just trying to act like it did not happen. That is not alright.
“My attorneys are handling everything,” Green said. “Leave it in their hands and I got an opportunity to compete for a gold medal. You don’t let any type of distraction get in the way of that. This [is] not about me. It’s not about anyone on this team. It’s about going out and defending our country the right way, so everything else is kind of secondary to that.”
Draymond Green is deflecting every question and every statement. Now, yes it is the right thing to do. He is talking about the Olympics and defending the USA and things along those lines, but he cannot just up and act like this thing didn’t happen. Would it kill you to say you’re sorry about what you did? Or you regret your decision? C’mon man…
Here is another statement he made…”Everybody’s concerned,” Green said. “But at the end of the day, as a public figure, as a guy that’s representing this country, it’s bigger than me. It’s bigger than anybody on this team. That’s just the stuff we have to remember.”
Does that even make sense? This is not bigger than you Draymond, you were the one that committed the act of violence. He was asked again about the entire situation and he claimed his focus is completely on winning a medal for his country and yet again said his “attorney is handling all of those things.”
This is just another example of athletes getting special treatment solely because of their god-given talents. If it were any Average Joe that did what he did, the situation would be a lot different. It is incredible how these athletes can get caught speeding, under the influence, or even with loaded firearms and still only face a fine that equates to pocket change to them.
Draymond Green has a pending assault and battery charge on him, and he is still playing in the Olympics, still a national icon, and worst of all still SMILING…
