For the past few months, the sports talk has been about Magic Johnson and Steph Curry: Who’s the Greatest Point Guard of all time?
The conversation started when Gilbert Arenas asked Steph Curry if he was the Greatest point guard to ever play in the NBA on Gilbert Arenas’s podcast.
Curry said he believes he’s the Greatest point guard to ever- play.
The conversation also got more interesting when Stephen A. Smith said on First Take that he believes Curry has supposed Magic Johnson as the Greatest point guard.
The conversation wouldn’t end because the great Michael Jordan texted Stephen Smith and told him that Ervin Magic Johnson is the greatest point guard to ever play in the NBA. However, Jordan did give Curry his flowers and said that Curry is the greatest shooter of all-time. Jordan also included that Magic is a five-time champion.
Smith’s reason why Curry supposed Magic is because of his impact on the game of basketball and how Curry has changed the way basketball is today.
When you think about how the NBA is today, it’s because of how Step Curry has revolutionized the art of the three-point shot.
Curry shoots the ball so great; his style of play resonated with the NBA and the young kids growing up. Whose dream is to play in the NBA someday.
Curry is also 6’3, and being a 6’3 guard in the NBA is average height, unlike 6’9, so that’s one of the reasons why Curry is relatable, and kids envy his playing style.
Curry has his fingerprints all over the NBA, and Curry, turned the Warriors franchise into a dynasty. However, Magic Johnson turned the showtime Lakers in the 80s into a Dynasty.
From the time; Magic Johnson, was drafted by the Lakers, he transformed the Lakers franchise forever with his ability to make everybody better around him.
Johnson was the first 6’9 point guard the NBA had seen because of his remarkable passer and playmaker.
Johnson was one of the first players in NBA history who could dominate a game without taking a shot because he mastered the art of passing and being the true definition of a point guard.
When you look at Johnson and Curry, they changed the game because their playing styles are unique and different in their own way.
When you think about Magic’s impact, his impact has been going on for generations for players such as Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill, and LeBron James.
Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill, and LeBron James all have similar traits to Magic Johnson.
Steph Curry and Magic Johnson have a lot of accolades throughout their careers.
Curry is a 4-time champion, 2-time league MVP, Finals MVP, 9-time all-star, 4-time first team, etc.
Johnson is a 5-time NBA champion, 3-time league MVP, 3-time finals MVP, 9-time first-team all-NBA, and a 12-time all-star.
Johnson has accomplished more than Steph Curry, and Johnson is more of a complete player than Curry because Johnson can contribute in more areas when it comes to winning.
Curry is a better shooter with leads to scoring. However, when you look at the point guard position, Magic is a natural point guard, and Magic is the original point god throughout the history of the NBA.
Curry is not a natural point guard; he’s more of a scoring guard. Curry can’t control a game like Magic.
Looking back at Magic’s career, he’s the Greatest point guard to ever play in the NBA.
