The Jets and Dolphins are so bad, both teams may be winless until they meet in week 9. It is gotten so bad for the Dolphins, they may pull a Jackie Moon from the Movie, Semi-Pro, and trade one of the Dolphin players for a washing machine.
5 Things We Learned About Week 3:
5) The Browns… All Hype:
In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s tennis star, Andre Agassi, had an ad campaign with the slogan…
The Cleveland Browns are all hype, but they are not a good football team. After losing to the Rams 20-13, Baker Mayfeild is now 1-7 against winning teams. Odell Beckham Jr. is 5-14 in his last 19 games. Jarvis Landry had 81 catches last season, he has 10 catches in 3 games. The Browns are the most penalized team in the NFL and their schedule doesn’t get any easier.
Over the next few weeks they play:
@ The Ravens
@ The 49ers
vs The Seahawks
@ The Patriots
@ The Broncos
vs The Bills
What is the Browns identity? what do they do well? We will find out in the upcoming weeks. If the Browns go on a 4 or 5 game losing streak, that locker room will implode and Freddie Kitchens could be fired by Week 10.
4) Daniel Jones…Welcome to New York:
The New York Giants drafted Daniel Jones with the #6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Giants benched Eli Manning, and this team now following their new leader,Jones. The former Duke quarterback, was very impressive in his first start. Jones was 23-36 for 336 yards and had became the first quarterback since the 1970s merger to have 2 passes and 2 rushing touchdowns in his first start. This offense looked energized and played with passion. This was the right move to make for New York. Eli Manning was 22 games under .500 in the last 5 years.
3) The Two Sleeper Teams in the AFC… Colts and Bills:
The Indianapolis Colts are 2-1 and the Buffalo Bills are 3-0 for the first time since 2011. Frank Reich has done a tremendous job with this team without Andrew Luck. The Colts have a very good offensive line, a good WR in TY Hilton and Marlon Mack proved he can be a featured back. Jacoby Brissett is completing 71% of his passes, he has 7 touchdowns and only 1 interception. Darius Leonard and Anthony Walker have 40 total tackles on the season.
Josh Allen struggled in his first year as the starting quarterback with the Buffalo Bills. In 2018, he only completed 52% of his passes. In his first three games he has completed 64% of his passes. The Bills have one of the most underrated coaching staffs in the NFL. Sean McDermott has got this team prepared for every possession and playing with a ton of confidence.
Buffalo is ranked 8th in total offense, 6th in total defense and t-5th in scoring defense.
2) How about those Saints:
The Seattle Seahawks were 15-0 at home in September since 2010. All that changed on Sunday afternoon. The New Orleans Saints, with Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback, won the game 33-27. Alvin Kamara had 161 total yards and two touchdowns. Michael Thomas had a touchdowns reception as well. The Saints will be tested next week when the host the Dallas Cowboys (3-0).
1) Are the Carolina Panthers better without Cam Newton:
Kyle Allen was 19-26, and had 4 touchdowns passes in the Panther’s victory over the Arizona Cardinals, 38-20. Cam Newton was 0-8 in his last 8 starts and didn’t throw a touchdown pass in his last 4 games. The Panthers played this game with a lot of energy and passion, something this offense has been missing under Newton. Allen could be the short term answer for the Panthers.
Bonus Coverage:
Lamar Jackson targeted 9 receivers in the Ravens 33-28 loss to the Chiefs. The young quarterback is maturing right before our eyes.
The Denver Broncos lost at Green Bay 27-16. This is not a surprise. In their history, the Packers are the only team the Broncos haven’t defeated on the road.
The Bears scored 28 points in the first half of their Monday night victory of the Redskins. The Bears have one of the best defenses in the NFL, if their offense gets rolling they can be a Super Bowl contender.
Jay Gruden has a career record of 35-47-1. His best record was 9-7. Its time to move on from him. He is not getting it down for the Redskins.
