Former champion Holly Holm faces surging Irene Aldana, also a former women’s featherweight champion and currently ranked No. 1 as a bantamweight contender. The Preacher’s Daughter, Holly Holm, will battle Irene Aldana in Saturday’s October 3rd Fight Card at 10:30 PM EDT in the UFC Main Event.
Holm and Aldana were initially scheduled to fight at the UFC Apex, in Las Vegas, but the league postponed the bout because Aldana tested positive for COVID-19.
Contracting COVID-19 emotionally and physically hit Aldana, who took several weeks to recover.
But Irene Aldana seemed to be entirely focused on training, believing nothing will prevent her from entering the octagon next time.
She is glad she is in good health and is relieved that the fight was only postponed and not canceled.
The event also features, along with the Main Event in the featherweight division, Charles Jourdain against Josh Culibao.
And in the Middleweight Division, Tom Breese faces Roman Kopylov.
“Fight cards, subject to drastic changes because of the various global quarantine restrictions.”
Fight Capital of the World?
As Dana White previously said back in August, UFC Fight Island In Abu Dhabi has become such a popular destination with significant international star competitors that it may indeed become the new fighting Capital Of The World one day.
Yas Islands In Abu Dhabi hosted a series of significantly successful UFC events back in July, virtually guaranteeing the UFC’s return.
A lot of the big international stars will rather fight over there than in the United States.
Dana White put Fight Island together in mere months, and it was the location for massive fights like Kamaru Usman against Jorge Masvidal and Alexander Volkanovski against Max Holloway.
The events became substantial successes.
Heading to Abu Dhabi proved to be a significant success.
Essentially in a bubble, as virus cases continued to increase, events went off without any significant issues.
Fans thought the idea of building an entire island to host these events amid a global pandemic was Crazy Talk.
However, everything came together, leading to some tremendous bouts in the Middle Eastern nation.
These next two weeks 🤩
