UFC’s last event In Abu Dhabi is massive for both the company and the lightweight division. UFC 254 marks the last event of the organization’s current stretch on Fight Island. The final bout will be perhaps the most meaningful, as Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje will unify the lightweight title.
The two sides will decide who is the undisputed No. 1 because it is champion against champion.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is unsure of his future beyond his lightweight title defense against Justin Gaethje but revealed that Dana White has something special lined up for him.
Fans have frequently suggested that the undefeated Nurmagomedov could retire from mixed martial arts following the tragic death of his father and coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, back in July.
The unbeaten Russian has not fought in the Octagon since September 2019. He withdrew from a fight scheduled bout because of travel restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic.
Justin Gaethje stepped in and won the interim belt to set up his meeting with Nurmagomedov in Abu Dhabi.
Khabib Nurmagomedov lost his father due to complications arising from his COVID-19 diagnosis and his time away from the action.
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was just 57 years old at the time of his passing, and the MMA community is still mourning and sending their condolences for the legendary trainer.
