Television shows were ruined in 2023 thanks to the two strikes. However, two new shows got my attention and were well-received by viewers as well. So let’s look at my top two new TV shows for 2023.
TV SERIES OF 2023
The Night Agent
Put The Night Agent (Netflix) on your list of shows to watch this offered us a great show to binge on in 2023. FBI agent Peter Sullivan (Gabriel Basso) portrays a young man with a troubled history thanks to his father who died in a car accident while under suspicion of betraying the United States.
Sullivan works at the White House and his responsibility is to answer a phone call overnight in a dark space down in the basement of the White House. He has a book assigned to him and is put into the position by the White House Chief of Staff Dianne Farr (Hong Chau) and he has to deal with a senior FBI agent who doesn’t like his relationship with the Chief of Staff.
One night Agent Sullivan gets an emergency call from Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanon) who is the niece of two of those American citizens who are defending the United States from terrorist suspects. As Agent Sullivan realizes the danger for Rose he keeps her calm while her aunt and uncle are murdered. The way this scene was handled was masterful and held to the novel written by Matthew Quirk.
From that minute onward Agent Sullivan and Rose Larkin embark on a wild ride as they uncover a domestic terrorist plot. The plot involves the Vice-President and the White House Chief of Staff along with an uber-wealthy man who has his very own hit squad.
The show is fascinating and viewers agree if you see how many hours of airtime folks have watched The Night Agent. This is easily the best of the 2023 TV Show To Watch if you haven’t already.
Poker Face
This show stars Natasha Lyonne and she is fantastic at portraying Charlie Cale a cocktail waitress who has the unique ability to know when she is being lied to.
Charlie used her unique ability at the poker tables in her past but she was caught by a man named Sterling Frost Sr (Ron Perlman) who runs a casino in Las Vegas and Charlie finds herself in trouble from the get-go of the series as Frost’s son has taken over the casino and he uses Charlie to get a big-time gambler and take his money.
Cale’s co-worker gets killed and she knows the son and his henchmen played by Benjamin Bratt are responsible. This series takes some strange turns as the son commits suicide and Frost Sr promises to end Charlie’s life.
Charlie Cale drives a Barracuda around the country discovers more murders and gets assisted by an FBI agent played by Luca Clark. Cale meets up with some strange characters and this show might not be something everyone relates to.
Lyonne is a magnificent actress who survived her issues in her life including Hepatitis C and needed open heart surgery. She reminds me looks wise of one of my favorite movie characters from the film Valley Girl Loryn who was played by EG Daily and is pictured on the far left of this picture. That was my first impression of seeing Natasha Lyonne and I wasn’t disappointed at all by this series.
The eighth episode features Nick Nolte and his performance is magnificent and he shows his acting chops are alive and well. This episode and the rest show the underside of humanity yet with Charlie Cale we see a flawed lady who with her unique ability to know truth from fiction is a very good way to binge through over the holiday season.
The final episode leads us into season two which will air on Peacock in the United States. Poker Face is truly a very creative program and is my second choice as a TV Show to Watch I hope anyone who reads this article tunes in and sees both shows.
