Trevon Diggs and the Dallas Cowboys agreed on a new deal with the 24-year-old cornerback eligible to make as much as $104 million over 5 years. This signing is excellent news for the Dallas Cowboys.

Trevon Diggs Numbers
Trevon Diggs has recorded 142 tackles one NFL sack and one forced fumble. Pretty mundane numbers right? Well, here are the actual numbers that matter 49 pass deflections and 17 interceptions, and two TDs from the interceptions. We all know he equaled the Cowboy’s Everson Walls interception record with 11 picks in the 2021 season. That season was exceptional and while he only had three interceptions last season to go along with his 59 tackles the other key factor has been Trevon Diggs’s numbers against some of the league’s best wide receivers.
Ask Ja’Maar Chase and Justin Jefferson how they enjoyed being blanketed by Trevon Diggs. Jefferson’s numbers are very pedestrian against Diggs as in two games he has a total of 47 yards against Diggs. Chase was also covered masterfully by Diggs in their game last season. When he’s been challenged by the best receivers in the game Diggs has stepped up.
Diggs was criticized incorrectly by PFF over the yardage he gave up in his 2021 seasons as I have discussed previously. Diggs because he wears the Dallas Cowboys uniform was targeted by PFF. I commented on this on my podcast Greg’s Gripes after the PFF numbers came out.
Going Forward
The Dallas Cowboys signing Trevon Diggs to this contract tells me Stephen Jones is very confident that the salary cap is going up significantly starting next season. If you commit this much cash to Trevon Diggs while not having signed Ceedee Lamb who was the first-round choice the same year as Diggs was selected in the second round tells me means to me the salary cap is headed to a very big number. $255 million is the number I have heard bandied around.
For me, this means the Dallas Cowboys are going to commit their resources to their big names minus Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott contract squabbles something that has hindered the Cowboys in the eyes of the media especially along with many of us in Cowboys Nation.
I have also heard that right tackle Terence Steele and Ceedee Lamb are both expected to sign new deals soon as well. If that’s the case the Cowboys still need more money for Zach Martin who]is underpaid at $14 million and there’s still Dak Prescott’s extension to come as well.
That’s not to mention the other big piece on the Cowboys’ defense either because Micah Parsons is also going to be eligible for a new contract after this season.
The Cowboys have signed one of their key young players to an extension with source confirming Trevon Diggs has a five-year, $97 million deal that includes a $21.5 million signing bonus. Up next: CeeDee Lamb, Terence Steele.

My Only Concern
My one concern and this is something I have said for a long time when it comes to Trevon Diggs. I want to see him with a dirty uniform, not the clean jersey we saw against the San Francisco 49ers in the playoff games the last two seasons. Yes, I know the first game was at ATT Stadium so the uniform will remain clean on the artificial surface but when playing on the grass I want to see green on the uniform. That means one more time from me that Trevon Diggs needs to improve his tackling!!!
Good Job Stephen Jones
As always if and when I agree with a Stephen Jones decision I grudgingly admit when I do so. While there won’t be any contract squabbles with Diggs I want this same thing to happen with Ceedee Lamb and especially with Micah Parsons. Here’s hoping that happens Cowboys fans.
