Stephen Curry is a top 10-point guard of all-time. He is also considered to be one of the greatest jump shooters to ever play the game. But it took quite a while for Curry to get acclimated to the NBA Game.
Curry’s 1st three seasons:
2009-2010: 17 points, 5.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds.
2010-2011: 18 points, 5.8 assists, 3.2 rebounds.
2011-2012: 14.7 points, 5.3 assists, 3.4 rebounds.
On June 21, 2018, Trae Young was selected with the fifth overall pick by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2018 NBA draft, he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks along with a protected future first round pick in exchange for the rights to the third overall pick, Luka Dončić.
Most NBA experts, like myself, labeled Trae Young as a “poor-man’s” version of Curry. I was wrong. At this stage of his career, Young is better than Curry was.
In his rookie season Young averaged 19.1 points, 8.1 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game.
This season, he has taken his game to another level. He is averaging 29.6 points, 9.3 assists and 4 rebounds per contest. He is shooting 51% from the field 86% from the free throw line.
The Atlanta point guard is only 21 years-0ld. He is 4th in the league in scoring. Only James Harden, Bradley Beal, and Giannis Antetokounmpo average more points per game. LeBron James leads the NBA, averaging 10.6 assists per game, Young is 2nd averaging, 9.3.
He is in the top 10 in almost every offensive category. He is doing thison an Atlanta Hawks team is not very talented. Young is not only one of the youngest players in the NBA, he is one of the best players in basketball.

The author clearly biased in favor of Young/the Hawks. He failed to mention that the reason Trae Youngs stats are better than Currys was at this point in his career is that Young is averaging 18 shots per game, while Curry averaged only 11 per game in his 3rd year. Curry wasnt thrown into a situation where he HAD to take 20 shots a game. He was able to play team-ball. Trae Young was expected to run the Hawks offense right out of college. Thats also why year 3 Young is averaging 7 minutes per game more than year 3 Curry averaged. The author fails to mention ALL of the reasons Youngs year 3 stats are better than year 3 Curry. Notice he didnt mention shooting percentages? He already failed to mention both players were put into completely different roles. Youngs 3 point percentage is 10 percent lower than Currys was at year 3. Same with FG percentage and eFG%….anyone can shoot so much that they are bound to score often. He also forgot to mention each year 3 players “per 36 minutes” or “per 100 possessions” stats. How convenient! Young actually averaged 3 more shots per game last year than he did this year. He turns the ball over often, too. Curry thorughout his entire career has never averaged 4+ turnovers per game. I could go on and on….but whats the point of arguing with a writer who writes from emotion rather than truth?!?!
I have been saying Trae Young is better than Curry for 2 years now! Same stage Curry was not doing this and doesn’t have the full skill set Young already has. Difference is the media and biased way the NBA dramatizes and advertises certain players is why Curry gets all the love still. Hopefully Young is destined to win how Curry was fortunate to do so with great HOF teammates.
