The Patriots offense looks more functional and better. From the practices I’ve seen Bill O’Brien has control and he as the buy in of the players. Mac Jones looks comfortable, loose, and vibing with his receivers. After every practice rep Mac is seen standing next to Bil O’Brien while Zappe stiff as a board doesn’t. Every day the offense has gotten better from scheming plays to changing this up and red zone drills. Training camp hadn’t even started and I said the offense is miles ahead of where it was last year this time.
Patriots Offense Is More Functional
Mac Jones is consistently with the starters offensively. Only Thursday was the day Mac was with the starting offensive line and backup receivers. Zappe was with the backup offensive line and starting receivers. Jones did better with the backup receivers than Zappe did. Jones found Tre Nixon and Jones did also better in the red zone with the starting receivers than Zappe did with the backups.
JuJu-Smith Schuster has spoken about starting quarterback Mac Jones leadership.
JuJu Sees The Offense Has Improved From Last Year When He Was With The Chiefs
Bill O’Brien is the main reason the offense is more functional than last year. That is one of the reasons JuJu is now a Patriot.
Last year when Joe Judge would yell something the position coach would have to go back to the player and correct it. This is why last year shouldn’t count when it comes to Mac’s development because Belichick is the one to blame.
Mac Jones Has Become A Leader For The Offense
Bill O’Brien spoke Friday about how he loves coaching Mac he works extremely hard. He also was asked if Mac was the number one quarterback here was the answer.
Question: Is there a specific hierarchy in the quarterback room? Do you view Mac as your No. 1 or are we kind of at square one where everyone is competing for that job?

Everyone Likes The Patriots Offense Under Bill O’Brien
In other words, yes Mac is the starter but if I come right out and say that Belichick will have my head. Now Felger and Mazz with the radio heads will eat it up and say “see O’Brien didn’t name Mac the starter.” But really it looks bad on Belichick if he were to admit “Yeah I was wrong Mac is our quarterback I failed him last year.” Instead, Bill doesn’t take ownership and O’Brien has to tip toe on the answer to please Bill. This was Mac’s answer on it being a quarterback competition.
Bill Belichick, Bill O’Brien, Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe, Robert Kraft, and fans now that Jones is the starting quarterback. It’s Belichick’s ego getting in the way which is the reason for him not mentioning that Jones is the starter publicly.
