The Philadelphia Phillies may not be regarded as the best team in MLB, but, they damn sure are producing like it. A look at team stats will prove why they belong at the top of the food chain.
The Phillies are ranked in the top 5 in Hits, Batting Average, Home Runs, RBIs, and Stolen Bases. With a team that features Bryce Harper, J.T. Realmuto, Trea Turner, and Kyle Schwarber, how could they be counted out? But to win in this league, you need more than offense. And this is what makes this Phillies’ team so dangerous. On the mound, the Phillies rank in the top 5 in Pitching Wins, ERA, Strikeouts, and Quality Starts.
Aaron Nola and Zach Wheeler are the big names but Ranger Suarez and Taijuan Walker have proven to be worth their rotation spots as well.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves are still on the heels of the Phillies but this team from the City of Brotherly Love has been the team to beat in the playoffs for the last two seasons while the Dodgers and Braves have faltered.
Philadelphia Phillies The Best Team In MLB
The question that keeps coming up when describing this unit is can they keep this momentum all season? Not likely. The MLB season is 162 games long. There will be losing streaks, injuries, and offensive and pitching droughts. It happens to all teams no matter how they begin the year. And ther Phillies will be no different, but it all comes down to how you finish the season, and over the last two, what team has been the best at that outside of the Philadelphia Phillies
So why are the Philadelphia Phillies not getting their proper respect? The Dodgers are an explosive bunch on the offensive side as they are top 5 as well in Batting Average, Hits, RBIs, and Home Runs. As far as winning goes, they are just a game back of the Phillies. This offseason, they spent a ton to bring in Shohei Ohtani to pair with Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith. The same can be said of the Braves and the Baltimore Orioles. All are juggernauts.
These are the teams many expected to be contenders. And while the Phillies have had postseason success lately, they have done so with late-season runs and Wild Card berths. What they’re doing now, was not expected. The Braves were picked to run away with the NL East and meet the Dodgers for the NLCS. But here the Philadelphia Phillies putting a cramp in their plans. Again.
Baseball has always been about the numbers and what team has better numbers than the Phillies at this stage of the season? Give them their proper due or the next time you look up, they could be the last team standing.
