Via uniThe Patriots offense got better with the signing of Mike Gesicki on Friday. However, they still need another wide receiver and help at offensive linemen. Gesicki is an upgrade over Jonnu Smith. Last year with the Dolphins Gesicki had 32 catches for 362 yards last year and five touchdowns. He mainly can help in the red zone which the Patriots have been struggling in the red zone for a long time.
Patriots Sign Mike Gesicki
Bill O’Brien recruited Gesicki at Penn State and O’Brien had a bunch of success with the two tight ends set back in 2010. I think he brings that back in 2023 with Henry and Gesicki and you’ll see more success. Gesicki can also line up in the slot so they can mix it up offensively which would be good.
Why The Patriots Let Jakobi Meyers Walk
I get the sense there are people scratching their heads as to why Jakobi Meyers isn’t with the Patriots and the answer is straightforward. He didn’t play ball with Bill and talked shit about the offensive coaching staff in 2022. Bill didn’t like it so he let him walk to the Raiders. JuJu will play ball with Bill because he’s an outsider who didn’t have to deal with that mess of Patricia and Judge last year. The guy won a Super Bowl with the best quarterback in the league and just got paid by Bill Belichick. Yes, they could’ve and should’ve paid both Meyers and JuJu but didn’t because of Bill’s ego.
The Patriots Will Sign Another Receiver
The Patriots will sign another wide receiver before the NFL draft in a month. Either they trade for Jerry Jeudy, DeAndre Hopkins, or Odell Beckham Jr. Hopkins and O’Brien had some heat with the Texans but that seems to be water under the bridge. He does seem like a quitter though for example during the Patriots game last year. Maybe because he wanted out but he would have to be all in if he gets traded to the Patriots.
Odell has always loved Belichick, but they had Brady. Would he want to come to New England? Yes, for the right price. I’m sure he wants at least $20 million a year and who knows if he can stay healthy. Not sure Belichick will reach in his pocket for that much on a player who is coming off an injury and hasn’t played in a year and a half.
Then there’s Jerry Jeudy who is a Mac Jones teammate and roommate at Alabama. He’s probably the best choice because we want to see that Joe Burrow like leap with Ja’Marr Chase. Those two played together in college then reconnected on the Bengals. The same could happen with Mac and Jeudy. Now, who do I think Bill will try and snag? DeAndre Hopkins. Just cause he loves Hopkins and he would play ball with Bill Belichick. But then again Belichick should have zero to do with an offense that should be all Bill O’Brien’s call. So far though I think Belichick holds the final say because if it was up to O’Brien then Jakobi would still be a Patriot.
When you look at the 2023 offense so far it is better than 2022 already. It started with O’Brien being named offensive coordinator. Signing JuJu is an upgrade even though I will keep saying they could’ve kept both he and Meyers. The Gesicki signing was an O’Brien signing I think he wants to get back to the two tight end sets he used with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. They need an offensive lineman someone that is good. Either sign one or draft one if it’s in the draft don’t let Belichick make the pick. Then get a receiver a number one for Mac Jones then they could be contenders in the division.
