The New York Jets are still the same old Jets even at 5-3. Between the questionable Jets defense and the awful turnovers by Zach Wilson the Patriots took advantage of Wilson’s mistakes. The Jets lost the game more than the Patriots won it. The pick six by Mac Jones was lucky it was called back by roughing the passer call giving the Patriots the first down. The amount of times Mac Jones was in shotgun yesterday was crazy. There is no reason for him to be in shotgun as much as he is. Where are the trick plays and play action, the Patriots did against the Browns?
Patriots Missed A Key Offensive Lineman
Patriots missed David Andrews yesterday on the offensive line. Boy were they a trainwreck. Cole Strange had a few penalties and Jones got sacked six times. Granted, Andrews is probably the offensive line coach during the games because Matt Patricia is too busy calling shotgun plays to Mac Jones. The best drive for the Patriots was in the second half when they went no huddle and moved the ball. Yes, Jones was in shotgun the whole time. They ran more play action and trick plays last year with Mac than this year. Can they try to mix it up because this shotgun thing all game isn’t going to work against the better teams.
Jakobi Meyers Is A Key Patriots Receiver
Jakobi Meyers is probably the best receiver the Patriots have this season. He is in a contract year, but you can tell it’s Mac’s favorite target. He always gets open and had a nice touchdown Sunday on a 4th and 1 play. Were the Patriots fortunate to win the game? Yes, did Mac play his best game? no his games last year against the Jets were better because he could do more. However, like I’ve said he hasn’t been put in the greatest position to succeed.
Mac Jones talked after the game about the halftime adjustments.
Bill Belichick moved in second place for most all time wins as head coach. He passed George Halas yesterday with his 325th victory. Most of those victories came with Tom Brady and the dynasty that the Patriots had for two decades. He has the chance to pass Don Shula, but I really don’t see that happening.
Not with the team he’s built and the coaching staff. The Patriots are 4-4 and currently last place in the division. Can Belichick turn things around and build a Super Bowl team. I doubt he even gets back to the AFC Championship game. If he had better coaching on the offensive side and promote Jerod Mayo as defensive coordinator, then they could have a shot. But it’s all about family and friends so be happy that he passed George Halas that’s great, however, the Patriots are all about winning have the best coach of all time but are sitting in last place. Oh, and his coaching tree blows, and Josh McDaniel’s is about to get fired from the Raiders in his first season. The Patriots should beat the Colts and Jets after coming out of the bye. But then it’s gets tougher.
