The Patriots may not say this publicly, but they are four years behind in the rebuilding process. What we are seeing now is an attempt to rebuild the Patriots the right way through the draft. Eliot Wolf has brought his Packer Way to New England, focusing on drafting, developing, and acquiring a veteran quarterback. Wolf has drafted some rookie receivers and linemen who will take time to develop. Currently, the offensive line cannot support Jacoby Brissett, let alone Drake Maye.
The Patriots Are Rebuilding Which Was Neglected The Last Four Years
Drake should not start until the offensive line improves, most likely not even this year. It might be possible to start him in December to get some game reps, but he’s still at risk of getting overwhelmed. For now, it’s probably best for him to gain experience through practice reps and learning. The Patriots probably have the worst offensive line in the NFL, so Wolf should consider investing in and drafting a left tackle in next year’s draft.
The Patriots were not expected to be a good team this year. The week one win against the Bengals was good, but the offensive line wasn’t great. Teams have studied the offensive line and know how to expose its weaknesses, which is what they are doing.
After the 49ers loss, Jerod Mayo talked about the play calling and offensive line.
The Patriots Offensive Line isn’t good enough to start Drake Maye
Just face the fact the offense has no juice and is rebuilding. The defense and special teams can only do so much. But because the offensive side has been neglected it’s going to take time to bring it back.
Jacoby Brissett even though he’s not a great quarterback he’s a good leader and role model for Drake Maye. He takes the blame and doesn’t put it on anyone else. That is why he’s here honestly because he can lead and be a positive influence. I think the thinking is if he just takes cares of the football which didn’t happen yesterday they have a chance to win.
