The Green Bay Packers lost their final home game of the season to the Detroit Lions, 20-16. If the Packers would have won that game, they would have clinched a playoff spot. When the team needed Aaron Rodgers the most, he played poorly. Against one of the worst defenses in the NFL, Rogers was 17-27 for 205 yards with 1 Touchdown and 1 interception. Over the past few years, Rodgers in a win-or-go-home situation at Lambeau field, has been outplayed by Jimmy Garoppolo, Tom Brady, and Jared Goff. Last year the Packers quarterback signed a 3-year, $150,815,000 contract including a $40,800,000 signing bonus, $150,815,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $50,271,667.
The entire Packers organization treats Rodgers like he is Tom Brady or Michael Jordan. The difference is, Brady has 7 rings, Jordan has 6, and Aaron has 1. He has the same Super Bowl wins as journeymen quarterback, Brad Johnson, and Trent Dilfer. Rodgers now needs time to reflect and figure out what he wants to do with his NFL career and the organization is once again being held, hostage.
The Packers need to find a quarterback who is “All-In” Not a guy who doesn’t want to play in pre-season to establish chemistry with young wide receivers or someone who needs to take extended time off when he fails to make the postseason. Would anyone keep an employee who after 7 months says they need time off to figure out what they want to do. Would anyone date someone who every few months says, “ I need time away, I will call you when I figure out what I want” Hell No.
Trade the pro-bowl player to the Las Vegas Raiders and start to rebuild your franchise. His voice, his antics, and his passive aggressiveness has been draining this organization for years. This team will never win another Super Bowl with their spoiled, entitled quarterback, so why hold on to him?
Jordan Love may not be the answer but they drafted him in the first round for a reason. Bring in a veteran quarterback this off-season like Derek Carr or Garoppolo and let them compete for the starting position. The Packers were a great organization before Rodgers took over as a quarterback and they will be a great organization long after he is gone. My guess a lot of his teammates would privately want him to leave.
