Has anyone ever left Chicago on The Chi? While death has hit many characters over the seasons, I don’t recall anyone ever leaving Chicago. Will Kevin be the first main character to depart? What was a hobby of sorts or something to do when he wanted to escape the evil look of his parents and sister, Kevin went off to his video game world where he found his escape. But now, that hobby has turned into a business and one where he was offered an opportunity to move to Los Angeles following his graduation from high school.
In the beginning stages of The Chi, Kevin, Jake, and Papa were the main focal points of the show as the writers focused on their bond and growth. However, as The Chi storylines grew, the writers began to give other characters bigger roles, thus making Kevin appear as a secondary character. While it has worked, Kevin leaving his neighborhood to move to Los Angeles does make a lot of sense.
Will Kevin Move To Los Angeles?
Since college is not on his list of things to accomplish, leaving may be the best thing for him. Besides his friends and family, there is not much for Kevin left to do in Chicago. At their age, the kids can travel as they wish. Miasha has dreams of making it in the music industry. Papa is dealing with a serious crisis and seems destined to take over the church where his father was the pastor and Jake is looking to expand his clothing business. Everyone has something going for them and Kevin, his dreams are out West.
But this is still The Chi where everyone’s dreams won’t come true. Will there be something that stops Kevin from moving to Los Angeles? The only roadblock could be death. The Chi Showrunner did say that Season 6 will be a tear-jerker. So far, all we have seen is the death of the Paster. As we know, The Chi loves to end their seasons with something dramatic. That is a bit scary as Kevin leaving may signal the end of The Chi or his character so letting him leave may not be an option here.
Who will die? Will it be his mother, his sister, one of his friends, or even Kevin himself? While the deaths have been at a minimum so far this season, we could see the tension building for a game of high stakes later on. While the kids were normally left out of this, they are o longer viewed as kids. Hell, Kevin has his own place. Keshia is starting a family with Emmett. Jake was about to be a father, and Papa may be rushing into fatherhood himself. These are not the same group of kids were we introduced to 6 years ago.
So yes, with the way TV has been lately, there is no telling if one of the major characters like Kevin could be killed off for sentimental value. While losing Kevin would be a huge blow to The Chi, it appears the writers are heading in a direction where his life will be on the line.
Is Alex R. Hibbert Returning To The Chi For Season 7
With the writers and actors strike going on, there is no telling what’s going to happen. With production of The Chi being shut down since the strike, the crew was only able to shoot a handful of episodes. As it stands now, the remaining episodes of Season 6 are coming at a later date and that’s why we haven’t heard anything regarding a 7th Season. And as far as Alex R. Hibbert goes, there have been no reports that he’s leaving The Chi. All we can do is wait. Is Kevin leaving The Chi or not? Is he moving to Los Angeles or not? We’ll find out soon enough.
