This has to be a joke, right? Mike Tyson will face Jake Paul in a live-streamed boxing event on Saturday, July 20th, 2024. The fight will be held at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and available to all Netflix members. It’s no shock Tyson is predicted to win this fight.
Mike Tyson is the former Heavyweight champion and, without a doubt, one of the greatest boxers ever. Calling New York City home, Tyson will turn 58 in June, just a few weeks shy of the match. Mike retired in 2005, with a 50-6 record. Feared by all, it is safe to say Jake Paul is barking up the wrong tree.
Now, as for Jake Paul, there’s less to be said. Paul is 27 years old and from Cleveland, Ohio. He has a 9-1 career record and started boxing in early 2020. Jake is a former YouTube star turned boxer. He seems to have a lot of balls and a big mouth that get him into trouble from time to time. He talks a big talk, but can he walk the walk? He was filmed signing a t-shirt that Tyson was wearing as a form of a contract accepting the fight, and with that, the training and publicity began.
My opinion seems to reflect the common thought, which is that this is mostly just a money grab, as most things are today. This fight will not be available via pay-per-view, and with it only being available through Netflix, subscriptions are going to be booming, and I’m sure the fighters will take a cut of that. Pair that with the amount of publicity both men have already gained in recent weeks, and it’s raining money.
But on another note, who comes out of retirement to bother with someone like Jake Paul? Tyson doesn’t need this fight, but here it is, and the outcome looks sub-par on Paul’s end. Fame can’t buy you a win against Mike freaking Tyson buddy, sorry.
If this fight does end up being the real deal, and both men actually square up in the ring my money is for sure on Tyson. Jake Paul’s fighting career is comical, but maybe that’s just my opinion. We will just have to wait and see.
Until next time, friends!
