Nothing was ever a guarantee on The Blacklist. So many twists and turns over 10 years and then the ending came and well, it made you look at the show differently. Some great characters have come and gone. Good ones and bad ones. And while die-hard fans have shed a tear or two over a few, Agnes Keen is the one we all may have to shed a tear for.
Whenever on screen, Agnes was all smiles. She lit up a room and added a soft touch to a show centered around death and deceit. For those facts alone, what transpired in the finale was just another reason why The Blacklist writers did Agnes no justice at all.
Agnes was born into a world of lies and crime. It wasn’t her fault, that’s who her parents were. While in Liz’s stomach, her wedding was interrupted by bullets. And that was just the beginning. Agnes would lose her father Tom before she even had a chance to know him.
The Blacklist Was Cruel To Agnes
She did spend time with her grandmother (Tom’s Mother) but after a while, she was even written out of the storyline. Then it all came crashing down. Her babysitter proved to be a liar who wanted to kill the person thought to be her grandfather. She was even killed off. Then her mother was killed leaving her to be looked after by Harold Cooper and his wife.
While her home life became more stable, there was still hurt and abandonment. Her mother was a disgraced agent due to her time with and chasing Raymond Reddington. Agnes grew close to Reddington and even that turned out to be a dark cold as Reddington lost his life while on the run from the same Task Force and Government he helped for over 10 years.
At this point, Agnes had lost almost everyone that loved her and she had loved. All that was left were people who don’t share any of her DNA. Agnes has no family left. Yes, the Cooper’s will look after her but it’s not the same as having her mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, and Red watching her grow up. Agnes lost everything on The Blacklist.
Watching Liz die was heartbreaking. Seeing Red’s lifeless body in a ditch after being mauled by a bull was hard to take in. But then, as the screen went black, my mind went to Agnes. How will she handle the news that Pinky is no longer with her?
Losing her mother was hard but Agnes was still young. They did spend time together but the memories of Liz are limited. With Pinky, they formed a special bond that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Pinky was family and now he’s gone just like everyone else in her life.
While we mourn the life of Liz and Red, let’s not forget to shed a tear for the character who suffered the most on The Blacklist– Anges keen
