Looking for something new to watch this summer? Well, say no more a new season of The Bachelorette is here and I can not wait for this one. It has been 4 months since we saw Joey Graziadei walk off into the sunset with Kelsey Anderson. Now we get to hop on the adventure train with one of my favorites ladies from that season as Jenn Tran takes center stage and changes the game as the first Asian American lead. “I think about it every day, all the time. I think if I pushed it aside, that would be such a dishonor to me in who I am because being Asian American, that’s me,” If you followed my work during last season I loved Jenn, from her go-kart entrance to her overall vibe but she fell short. But the fans have spoken and the show creators have said they are committed to adding diversity to the show.
Now, at first glance the lack of Asian male contestants was a bit of a surprise. The racist comments about her being the bachelorette unfortunately were not a surprise. But Jenn is ready to make the most of her moment and also showcase her bicultural upbringing. Tran in a recent interview said “There is a small scene in the beginning in my intro package where I talk to my family about leaving as a bachelorette and there they cooked a big, big Vietnamese meal,” Tran says. “I hope … I’m exposing people to something that’s different than them. And so that can incite change and that can incite acceptance into people.”
25 single guys are fighting for a rose with one looking to get the final one and win Jenn’s heart. What makes this show so fun is two things for me, of course the drama between the contestants along with seeing a match spark. The men normally aren’t as wild and crazy as the ladies BUT when something pops off it POPS OFF and who doesn’t like a good beef, unless your name is Drake. She has made it clear what she is looking for in a match. As for what Tran is looking for as the next Bachelorette, she said, “I hope that I find my person, someone that I truly feel like is 100% my perfect match and someone who I’m compatible with.”
It won’t take long for us to figure out our favorites so let’s take a look at the roster shall we:
