May is a great month for health and fitness for many reasons either you see the results of the hard work from the winter or if you are like me it is when you start to get right body and mind. So for this month’s Q&A, it was only right to showcase someone who began their journey 14 years ago and has shown no signs of slowing down. Not to mention she is a wife and mom. With a background in dance and bodybuilding, we get to know Bre.
Joe Cardoso: What got you into the gym?
Bre: My journey in the gym started 14 years ago, I decided, while in college, to make a healthy lifestyle change. I wanted energy. After I graduated high school and stopped dancing I gained my “freshmen 15.” That was the only wake-up call I needed to make a change.
JC: How did you come up with a workout plan in those early years? –
Bre: I used a lot of bodybuilding.com back when it was free to use. I’d watch a lot of old-school body-building videos but I’d tailor them to what I wanted my body to look like. Being a former ballet dancer, I had a certain body type. When entering into bodybuilding/sculpting I had an ideal image of how I wanted my body to look. I curated my workouts and programs for a specific look.
JC: Real progress is made in the kitchen, how do you handle nutrition?
Bre: I track my macros. I eat food that I enjoy and food that I know the nutritional information for. One of my go-to recipes is chicken meatballs, sausage egg, and cheese on a protein bagel, yogurt, and water.
JC: Who were/are some of the people you looked up to for Motivation?
Bre: In the early days I looked up to Arnold, CT Fletcher, Massy Arias, Charles Glass, and a few others.
JC: Looking at the fitness landscape, how important is it to you being a black woman in the industry?
Bre: I have always believed representation mattered even in my previous industry as a Senior Data Scientist. I always gravitated towards industries that were deemed difficult such as technology and mathematics. The fitness industry is no different. The best form of discipline is showing up to the gym day in and day out even when you don’t want to. Showing up for myself and those who look like me is what matters and I receive Direct Messages about it on a weekly basis.
JC: Why did you decide to get into training?
Bre: I wanted to help people reach their potential, and one way to do that is by physically challenging them to push their limits.
JC: What are some goals you have for the rest of 2024, without giving it all away?
Bre: Every year I write my New Year Goals down and revisit them frequently to make sure I am on track. One is to increase my online presence, venture into a new field (related to fitness), and scale my business SS Sculpt.
JC: Who is Bre?
Bre: Bre is a multifaceted fitness influencer who got her start as a mathematician and Data Scientist, a former ballet dancer of 13 years, a wife, and a mom.
JC: When not coaching or working out we can find you where, and doing what?
Bre: Being a wife and mom and running my business SS Sculpt. My life revolves around those main pillars: My family, my fitness, and my business.
JC: If you could get rid of one fitness trend it would be____?
Bre: PDE, I’d get rid of Performance Enhancement Drugs. This would definitely level the playing field and allow people to see natural muscle growth and realistic timeframes to realize results.
Great insight from Bre a young lady who is putting in the work and also helping others reach goals. Make sure you check out her socials and her programs.
