It’s no secret that the Young Avengers are set to make their debut appearance in the MCU soon. While that’s exciting, Marvel should pay homage to those before them. Before any Netflix show, Marvel and Hulu introduced fans to the first set of Marvel teenage heroes with The Runaways and Cloak and Dagger. It’s time to bring them back.
The Young Avengers are set to lead the new wave. However, Marvel is a master at nostalgia. With the return of Daredevil and possibly The Defenders, the Young Avengers could be the door that opens to let Alex Wilder, Nico Minoru, Karolina Dean, Chase Stein, Gertrude Yorkes, and Molly Hanes all to return. But not just those two, Cloak and Dagger had a great 2 season run on Hulu as well with Aubrey Joseph and Olivia Holt.
While we watched Iron Man and Captain American team up, Netflix also made their team with a crossover but before them, The Runaways and Cloak and Dagger did it. Can we get that again but this time with higher stakes?
The Runaways were canceled after Season 3 but their story was not complete. Yes, they managed to get their revenge and save the world but the next set up was for them to be saved from one of their own. Alex was set to become evil Alex and comic fans were waiting patiently for that to happen. But Hulu canceled the show and The Runaways was never discussed again. But there is a new light.
With Kevin Feige saying that early MCU shows are now canon, does that hold true for The Runaways and Cloak and Dagger? For most, those were kid shows. It was not like Daredevil or Jessica Jones. These were kids with powers. But what makes them any different than the Young Avengers? How is Nico any different that Kate? How is Alex any different than Wiccan?
As far as a plot goes, that may be a little hard but it is very doable. Maybe Alex goes psycho and everyone has to team up and stop him. Or, maybe he stays with his team and a new evil emerges. either way, it will be a good trip back down memory lane for fans who have been with Marvel since their early Hulu days.
In a recent interview with Rhenzy Feliz while discussing his role on The Penguin, he had this to say about a possible return back to the MCU;
I would love to work with those guys again. I would love to work with the actors, you know, the rest of the Runaways. I love them. I still keep in touch [to] this day, so I love them as human beings. I think we’re a little bit old now to be the Runaways, but I could see it. I could see it working somehow. I think if there was a call, again, it would have to make sense, and we’d read it, and we’d dive in, and we tried to make the best kind of story we could to be a part of something, but I love getting to work with that company. I love getting to work with those people. So I would definitely be open to it, 100%
The opportunity is there. He wants back in if the call is made. The Young Avengers are forming and with older members supposedly coming back into the MCU trenches, adding more members to the Young Avengers will be a good call.
