Secret Invasion may not have brought the MCU back to its powerful ways, but it did set up new storylines and changed the way fans remember the original movies. All it took was shapeshifters, a secret marriage, and what appears to be an invincible hero.
G’iya has remains of The Harvest. And what that means is that by all accounts, she’s the most powerful of them all. But what does her future hold? Thinking back to Wanda and what drove her to become Scarlett Witch, will the same happen to G’iya? If she is indeed that powerful, wouldn’t it make sense to have her as a villain than a foe? Forget Kang, G’iya is the one they should be fearing.
But wait a minute. All this time Nick Fury was married? And not just married, he was married to a Skrull. The Fury and Talos relationship was cool to see unfold and then end but with Fury heading back to SABER, that opens the door for The Marvels.
While Fury was the main character in Secret Invasion, the storyline itself paved the way for Rhodey and Armor Wars. Don Cheadle let it be known that the death of Tony Stark aka Ironman would be a huge catalyst for his show. It was hard to understand why since Peter Parker touched on that in Spider-Man: Far From Home and No Way Home but we now understand why his death will play a huge role in Armor Wars.
Rhodey was a Skrull. The question is, how long was he one? From what fans saw, the rumor is that the Skrulls took his body over during Captain America: Civil War. That would explain why he was being held captive in a hospital gown and was unable to walk when G’iya rescued them.
Did Secret Invasion Set The Stage For MCU
But that opens the door for so many different storylines for the MCU. Rhodey was not one of the well-known Avengers and are we to believe that the Skrulls only took his body when they could’ve had Hulk, Ironman, Cap, Black Panther, or someone stronger? Why Rhodey? There has to be more out there.
But what has fans buzzing with excitement is that the version of Rhodey that we know, has no idea that Tony is dead. He has no idea what Thanos did, the snap, or the death of Vision of Black Widow. Hell, he doesn’t even know that Tony and Pepper have a daughter. His world is about to change and not for the best.
While Marvel has taken a few lumps with some of their latest movies and shows, Secret Invasion may have swung the pendulum back in the right direction. While the show was lackluster, it did set the foundation for what’s to come.
