The San Diego Padres will begin playing baseball for real this week. Opening Day is Thursday, and the Padres will take on the Colorado Rockies. Blake Snell will get the start because Yu Darvish was in the World Baseball Classic and didn’t pitch enough. The Padres have the best chance to win the World Series this year and they should. With how much ownership has invested in this team it would be a failure if they were unable to win a World Series in 2023.
After watching their spring training games the only thing, I would question is their bullpen. Do they have enough to close games out of if they are close for whatever reason? I don’t think with that lineup the games would be close often. They are a powerhouse offensively with all that talent.
San Diego Padres Baseball Is About To Start
The biggest acquisitions this offseason were signing Xander Bogaerts and giving Manny Machado a contract extension. Will Juan Soto be next? Bogaerts knows how to win at the most important times in the playoffs. He will come clutch when his name is called upon. During his introductory press conference in December Bogaerts said how he wanted to be on a team ready to win a championship.
Two Big Padre Signings this offseason
The Padres are built to win championships for years to come. On the other side, you have Manny Machado who was signed to a contract extension for another 11 years and $350 million.
While Fernando Tatis serves his 20-game suspension to begin the season. It looks like he will be playing in Triple-A. After he serves his suspension, he will return sometime in late April. I don’t put in much stock into spring training baseball by now I just want the season to start. It’s an exciting time to be a Padres fan my prediction will be 94 wins and win the division. I also think they play the Phillies in the NLCS and win in five games. Then play the Astros and beat them in five games
