I BELIEVE!!! Last week was spectacular for anyone who calls them a College Football fan or long-suffering Colorado Buffaloes fan. Coach Prime Deion Sanders and his staff had their team ready for whatever the TCU Horned Frogs threw at them and, that wasn’t much. In 100-degree heat and some of the cleanest white uniforms I’ve seen they put on a show and now are back home in Boulder and looking to move to 2-0 as the Cornhuskers of Nebraska come to town. The dust has settled and, if you’ve been following social media the Buffs are not smelling the roses they are looking to improve and show the home fans they are a different squad.
I was in Boulder, Colorado this week and people are going INSANE over the win and new culture that has taken over the university and this program. Giving a nod to the old school and former head coach Bill McCartney Coach Prime has banned players from wearing red for Nebraska week, how cool were the jersey decals L for leader and D for Dawgs with today’s kids its brilliant. Matt Rule is running the Cornhuskers now and after last week’s performance, Big Red Nation wants to see some hope. His son Shedeur Sanders had the type of day quarterbacks dream about and had Tom Brady texting him post-game. It is clear that the Buffs have weapons all over let’s dive into the 3 keys to getting to 2-0.
- Fast Start: Playing at home in front of a sold-out stadium with fans starving for a good product can rattle some players. Coach Prime and his staff need to set up the team for early success and get some easy positive plays early in the contest. They averaged 7 yards a play last week which will be hard to do again but this offense is explosive and has the playmakers to make it happen. With the likes of Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horn, and Xavier Weaver spread it around and keep the Cornhuskers on their heels. Would be nice to see a focus on Dylan Edwards and the running backs and get the run game going.
- Improvement From The Defense: YES, they gave up 42 points and looked lost at times those are the facts. But, when it was needed the Colorado defense made plays and had key turnovers. We call that something to build on kids. I watched Nebraska’s offense and can tell you dynamic is not a word that comes to mind at all. What better way to get better and continue to get better? You can NOT have 10 penalties and get too many wins. Nebraska will try and ground and pound away and use up the clock while playing keep away so stopping the run will be key.
- Get Travis Hunter The Ball: This young man is electric and a throwback to Charles Woodson playing both sides but he is much more explosive than Charles ever was. OC Sean Lewis loves to run fast break basketball on grass which fits Hunter perfectly screens, slants, and sweeps get him in space and watch the magic happen. Having all of Folsom Field behind him will only add more juice to this Heisman hopeful.
Will Colorado Beat Nebraska
The atmosphere is going to be off the chain, and that is what Sanders feeds off of even on the sidelines. The Cornhuskers won’t just roll over but this Colorado offense is just too good to be stopped this week and should lead them to a 2-0 record. As I mentioned my main focus will be on the run game and the defense overall I want to see a better effort from both. We could also see TWO Heisman candidates truly emerge after this one.
