I figured that Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin had lost the locker-room when:
Ben Roethlisberger refused very publicly to have anything to do with mentoring recently drafted quarterback Mason Rudolph then…
During a press conference Big Ben, laughed to reporters that he’d sent the young man, “A text message wishing him to have a good training camp”.
I knew from that point forward, things within Steelers organization would only get worse and the circus that it has become does not surprise me at all.
The founding father of the Steelers, Mr. Art Rooney – may he always rest in peace, would had summon both Ben Roethlisberger and head coach Mike Tomlin into his office, and rip them both new ones:
“Ben, I don’t give a damn who you are…you do not get to tell anyone how to run my team!
“Mike, if you’re not up for the job, let me know & I will find someone who is.
“Nobody in this organization is above me! Now the both of you get the Hell out my office!”
The founding father would had nip the whole thing in the butt before it got any further right away.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have always operated like a family and they really use to cultivate that atmosphere. Consistency was not just some trending word for them…if there ever was a team in the National Football League, which embodied the word consistency…then the Pittsburgh Steelers were it.
Ownership of the Pittsburgh Steelers has remained within the Rooney Family since it was founded in 1933. It has become the family’s birth right. A Rooney founded the franchise and unless a meteor hits our planet, a Rooney will always own the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have NEVER! fired a Head Coach….Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin…have been their only three head coaches since 1969 and between them have a total of eight Super Bowl appearances.
That’s not just a statistic, it’s also an undisputable fact.
Steelers Nation has a large and widespread fan base, which is also notorious for Traveling Well.
The Pittsburgh Steelers pretty much have always ignored free agency and build through the draft. Many other teams in the NFL tried to copy this method, because honestly…who can argue with the results? But except for the New England Patriots, no other team in the NFL has been able to duplicate their success and in this day, and age, of instant gratification most likely will never be able to.
Their consistency always started at the top with the Rooney Family and it trickled down to their coaches, players and fans.
It was an undeniably winning recipe.
They even created the Rooney Rule.
The Rooney Rule, which was established in 2003, requires NFL teams to interview minority candidates for Head Coaching and Senior Football Operation Opportunities.
Even though it has come under attack by certain individuals recently, it’s the standard sample of Affirmative Action in the National Football League.
The current Rooneys have to hold the reins tighter and show the world that nobody is above The Steelers Way!
