The dust has settled on the Philadelphia Eagles season and as they learned with their last Super Bowl trip, with winning, comes consequences. The Eagles lost their OC, Shane Steichen, and DC, Jonathan Gannon, on the same day and that means, there are positions open. One person Howie Roseman should go after is Eric Bieniemy of the Kansas City Chiefs. Yes, the same OC who just put a spanking on the Eagles during Super Bowl 57. Why not?
The rumors are that Bieniemy is one of the top candidates to take over the OC position for the Washington Commanders, The reason this is such an important decision is that Bieniemy, for whatever reason is not being looked at for an HC spot. So, this will be a lateral move. However, the Commanders are not as talented on that side of the ball as the Eagles are and this could be the perfect spot for Bieniemy to continue his legacy.
We can throw out a million reasons why no one has hired Bieniemy to lead a team. The truth is, we don’t know why. But what we do know is that his contract with the Chiefs is up and he’s a free agent. The Philadelphia Eagles are looking for a replacement and all signs are pointing in the direction they will hire from within. Possibly QB Coach Brian Johnson or even Passing Game Coordinator, Kevin Putallo. But why not Eric Bieniemy?
Should The Philadelphia Eagles Hire Eric Bieniemy
As far as he knew, the Eagles were not in need of a coordinator so the Commanders’ job was a good choice. But now that this position is open and with a chance to work with Jalen hurts, AJ Brown, and DeVonta Smith, the Eagles’ position may be too good to pass up. But how will those in the Eagles’ organization feel about him?
He did just beat them but this is also a business. Personal feelings must be set to the side. And who says that Andy Reid and the Chiefs won’t throw another bag of money at his feet in order for him to stay? Think about all he has done. During his tenure with the Chiefs, Bieniemy has helped Patrick Mahomes to 2 MVPs, 2 Super Bowl wins, and 3 Super Bowl appearances. As much talk regarding the success of the Chiefs and Mahomes gets, Bieniemy has been behind the scenes for it all. Imagine what he could do with Hurts.
What Roseman can use as a selling point is that Eric Bie is no stranger to the Philadelphia Eagles. He did play one season with the Eagles in 1999 under Reid so there is a slight history there. But still, to lure him away, Roseman will need to show him the money. Bieniemy should not leave great success for anything short of $2.5M per season. For an OC, that’s a lot but is he not worth it? Look what he has accomplished and with the Eagles in need of a new OC, Bieniemy could do wonders for this young offense the same way he did for the Chiefs.
