Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles and those who are not, please stop with all the Nick Sirianni hate. This team is struggling for the first time under his guidance and everyone is ready to get rid of him.
In his 3 seasons as head coach of the Eagles, Sirianni has compiled a 34-16 regular season record. He has an NFC East title under his belt. He also has an NFC Championship under his belt and as of now, has led the team to one SB appearance in his first two seasons. And now, you want him fired or say he has lost the locker room.
Hmmmm, let’s look at what the Eagles and Sirinas have faced.
The Philadelphia Eagles opened the 2023 season with the toughest schedule in the NFL. So far, they have won 11 games. But the focus is on the 1-4 record in their last 5. That’s pretty fair. But then again, he’s catching heat because he has done nothing but win.
It’s the same with people just waiting for the Pittsburgh Steelers to fall flat and give Mike Tomlin his first losing season. People want you to fail. How long have they been waiting for Bill Belichick to fall on his face?
With Sirianni, it’s cold-blooded. He’s a young coach that his players look up to. But what’s happening now is part of the game and part of the coaching process. This Eagles team is struggling and the finger is getting pointed in the direction of the leader. Yes, he deserves some of the blame but not to the point where he should be ran out of town.
The Philadelphia Eagles lost their Offensive and Defensive Coordinators in the offseason. Normally, you may lose just one after a SB trip but to lose both is hard to overcome no matter who you have as a coach, QB, CB, or LB. There is a growing period there. Just so happens, that the Eagles are in win-now mode and are not allowed any setbacks like the other teams have been doing this season or as some have even doing for decades. That’s the cost of winning, I guess.
Nick Sirianni is going nowhere. His job is secure. Although the Eagles may not win their division and will head into the playoffs as the 5th seed, what does that change? They can still win.
The defense is playing awful. Things must be shored up on that side of the ball. The offense is hella predictable. And yet, if you ask around, that is still a team no one wants to face. Just as quickly as it fell apart, they can turn it on. Then what? Sirianni is catching heat for that but what is he supposed to do, fire the entire staff when your team is considered Super Bowl contenders?
Should The Philadelphia Eagles Fire Sirianni
Why get rid of a coach who has done nothing but win and brought that winning attitude back to a city looking for another championship? Who else is out there better? Fans are spoiled and that’s what this comes down to. 11 games they have won with the toughest schedule and due to a rough patch, the head coach must be removed.
Sirianni must get his players ready for the game. Do we think that he is not doing that? Do we honestly believe that he just tells his team to lay flat during the closing 2 minutes of a game? At the halfway point this season, fans were putting him on a pedestal and now they are kicking the chair from under him. Spoiled.
Hell, are they calling for the job of Andy Ried as the Kansas City Chiefs are slipping? What about the job of Doug Pederson with the Jaguars? Eagles fans just like drama. And don’t get it confused, I bleed green all day long. However, I also understand that rough patches happen.
Getting rid of a good coach and finding another is hard to do. Coaching jobs in the NFL is a revolving door. Most of these fans and sports analysts want them to go 17-0 in the regular season and then win the SB every year. If that doesn’t happen, the coach is not doing his job. The issue with Nick Sirianni is not that he’s a bad coach, the issue is, that he exceeded expectations and now that fans want perfection.
