The Philadelphia Eagles must do whatever it takes to land Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders. With news that the Raiders are willing to listen to offers for the Pro Bowl receiver, Howie Roseman has to be looking over the roster and his draft picks and thinking, that this would be a great addition.
However, he’s not the only GM looking over spreadsheets and roster spots. Almost every team will be mulling a trade package with the Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets considered to be the top 2 teams for different reasons.
The Chiefs are in desperate need of a receiver following news that Rashee Rice is out for the year. They need help for Patrick Mahomes and snagging Adams would be ideal. The Jets will be in play thanks to the connection Adams has with Aaron Rodgers dating back to their prolific days with the Green Bay Packers. But that doesn’t mean the Eagles should stand pat and do nothing.
With their core of receives still dinged up, they need someone who can help Jalen Hurts. Yes, when healthy they are arguably one of the best tandems in the NFL but it doesn’t hurt to have more weapons. Adams has suffered in Vegas since joining in 2023. He went there to play with his college friend Derek Carr but watched as the Raiders sent him packing. Now, he’s catching balls from whoever the QB of the week may be for the Raiders. It’s time for a change for both parties.
Coming to Philly would ignite that burning passion for winning in Adams. He might be labeled as the 3rd or 2nd option behind AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith but if winning is all that matters to him, then Philadelphia is the place to be. In Kansas City, he would jump to the No. 1 option, even with Travis Kelce there.
It would be the same with the Jets. Garrett Wilson is the man there but he and Rodgers, that was something special to see for 8 seasons. However, Philly is a different beast in itself. The Eagles traded for Jahan Dotson to be their 3rd receiver and even in the absence of Smith and Brown, Dotson has not lived up to the challenge. Adding Adams with those two would give the Eagles the best offense in the NFL on paper and will make it hard for any defense coordinator to game plan for them.
Imagine lining up and trying to figure out who to guard. If that’s not scary enough, you still have to peek into the backfield wondering what Saquon Barley is going to do. While the Chiefs have the QB and the winning mystic, the Eagles offer the biggest upside. It’s like Kevin Durant going to the Golden State Warriors. They were already champions before he got there. Imagine getting the praise as the man who was the missing piece in Philly.
Another thing to consider is that the Philadelphia Eagles have the picks and they have the leverage to add a player to the deal. Dotson can be moved along with John Ross or Parris Campbell. Instead of getting just a pick, Rosemean can sweeten the deal with a receive or two.
