The Philadelphia Eagles, even with their undefeated record so far, could still use a bit of help. The defense, while mainly healthy all season, has continued to falter when trying to contain the run. But this is not about them. This is about Howie Roseman making a pitch for receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
While OBJ is still making his so-called rounds and listening to pitches, the Eagles should make a pitch as well. Will it work? Maybe, maybe not. But at the same time, why not try?
According to reports, Beckham Jr wants to play either in a dome or someplace warm, especially coming off an ACL injury. But then again, this is just speculation. This is what analysts believe is best for him. Following Odell throughout his career, when has he ever done what people believe is best for him?
With the Dallas Cowboys on the hunt, thanks to words from owner Jerry Jones, there is speculation that a deal may already be done. However, there are also whispers that the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and even the New York Giants are on his shortlist. Well, since they are, that proves that he’s looking at more than playing in a dome or warm weather as there is nothing warm about New York or Kansas City. Odell wants to win and he feels that these are a few of the teams who can get him a 2nd straight Super Bowl ring.
But wait, if the weather is not an issue, then why shouldn’t Roseman make that call?
The Philadelphia Eagles are the best in the NFL and despite a receiving core that includes AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, pairing Beckham with those two players would place fear in every defensive coordinator outside of Lincoln Financial Field.
The Philadelphia Eagles and Odell Beckham Jr Are A Great Fit
Coming off a serious injury, Beckham is not ready to carry the load as he did with the Giants and Cleveland Browns. It can be a mirror image of what he did last season with the Los Angeles Rams in just 8 games. He could slide into position and help Jalen Hurts. This season, the Eagles are ranked 24th in passing attempts and 9th in Passing Yards. Adding Beckham will open the door for Hurts to take more chances downfield.
With the Eagles having one of the best ground attacks in the NFL, how would opposing defenses be able to handle an ariel attack that features Smith, Brown, Dallas Goedert, and Beckham? At this point in his career, Beckham is not looking for stats, he wants rings. There are only a handful of teams that offers that and the Eagles should be on his list and not just for what could happen this season.
The Chiefs with Pat Mahomes are set for a nice run. The same for the Bills with Josh Allen. But the Cowboys, as we’ve seen over the last few years, have been known to give up on players. Hurts and the Eagles, at least on the offensive end of the spectrum, are young. Beckham mentioned a 4-year stretch for his career and having a core where Goedert at 27 is the oldest of the offensive weapons is a promising sign for Beckham.
Money can also be an issue but Roseman is a master when it comes to the salary cap. He can make anything work if he really wants a player. What it will come down to for both parties is fit. Can Odell Beckham Jr fit with the Chiefs, Bills, Giants, or Cowboys? Yes, he can. However, it’s the Philadelphia Eagles that may be set up for success better than any of these teams.
The Chiefs and Bills are good but the rest of the AFC is catching up. The Cowboys are good but there is a mental block there. The Giants are still unknown and have many equations heading into the offseason. But the Philadelphia Eagles are set up for future success. And as it looks, the rest of the NFC is trying to play catch up to them.
