The (11-1) Philadelphia Eagles will take on the New York Giants this Sunday in their first matchup of the season. The Eagles are coming off an impressive win over the Tennessee Titans while the Giants managed a tie with the Washington Commanders. Heading into the game, the Giants are still in the playoff hunt but another loss here would be damaging.
The Eagles will enter the game 2-1 against the NFC East while the Giants are 0-2-1. Can the Eagles contain Saquon Barkley? will the Giants be able to stop Jalen Hurts and the Eagles’ ground game.? Two division foes with playoff implications on the line. The NFC East has seen a resurgence this year and that’s in large part to the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants.
Here are 3 keys to victory for the Philadelphia Eagles against the New York Giants.
Quick Start
The Philadelphia Eagles are 2nd in the NFL in points scored while the Giants rank 21st. What has worked so well for the Eagles is their ability to score points early. If they can continue this trend against the Giants, the Eagles will walk away with a victory. The reason this is of utter importance for the Birds is that the Giants rely on Saquon Barkley for yardage. If he can move the chains, that takes the pressure off Daniel Jones. However, if the Eagles can race out to a 14+ point lead before halftime, that takes away some of the damage Barkley can do.
The name of the game for the Eagles this week is to attack and keep their foot on the pedal. Just as they did against the Titans last week, there is no reason to let up. it was an emotional game for AJ Brown, now the ist e thinking NFC East title and getting that No.1 seed. Strike First. Strike fast, and strike often.
Get The Balance Going Offensively
Last week against the Titans, the Eagles abandoned the run in favor of getting the ball to Brown and DeVonta Smith. This week against the Giants and their 26th-ranked Run Defense, they have to get back to what they do best. However, on ther flip side of that, the Eagles proved against the Titans how dangerous they can be when they want to throw the ball. Now, all they have to do is find a balance in the same game.
The Eagles have proven they can run the ball great and against the Titans, they proved they can throw the ball. Against the Giants, this will be the perfect time to add both. If they can run the ball effectively against that defense and then hit some deep passes down the field where the Giants rank 18th in Passing Yards Allowed, this could be a long day for the Giants’ defense.
Philadelphia Eagles Must Fix The Peamtlies
This should be the case for every game but what happens against the Tennessee Titans cannot happen again. On average, the Eagles commit a little over 5 penalties per game. However, against the Titans, it seems that everyone was just anxious or not paying attention to what has worked for the past 12 weeks. The Eagles were penalized 12 times for 80 yards and if the Titans could get any offense going, the outcome may have been different.
Against a division rival, this must be corrected. Nick Sirianni and his crew can’t give the Giants extra chances to move the ball down the field. The defensive holding, well, there are times when that’s just ticky-tack calling on behalf of the refs. But it’s the false starts and illegal men downfield that has hurt this team. There is no more room for errors as the Eagles get into the meat of their remaining schedule.
