The Philadelphia Eagles will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this coming Sunday in what will serve as a revenge game of sorts for the Birds. Last campaign, the Bucs ended the Eagles’ season with a crushing defeat in the playoffs. While fans were upset, that loss was needed to end such a miserable late-season collapse—time for a do-over.
The Eagles are coming off a gritty win against the New Orleans Saints while the Bucs were handed a humiliating defeat at the hands of the red-hot Minnesota Vikings. Both teams are sitting at 2-1. Can the Bucs get back on track or will the Eagles continue an upswing?
Get To Baker Mayfield
The Philadelphia Eagles finally decided to stop a team from gashing their defense on the ground. And yet, they still haven’t found a way to get to the QB. Gone are the days of the defense leading the NFL in sacks. Now, they just need to hit him. Against the Saints, the team registered just 1 sack on Derek Carr. Mayfield is another vet and understands how to throw the ball away or get it out quickly. This season, he’s been sacked 13 times which shows that their offensive line is not that good.
Hurts Must Take Care Of The Football
The costly turnovers for Jalen Hurts must stop. In the first 3 games of the season, he has already thrown 3 interceptions and fumbled three times. The offense, with all their injuries, cannot afford to keep leaving points on the field. While talented, they’re still flawed. But it all begins with the play of their leader.
Hurts has to stop the hero ball and do what he does best. he has to direct the offense and trust the playmakers to do their thing. With so much emphasis on his mishaps, Hurts is still the 4th leading passer in Yards in the league. His talent is still shining but he must take care of the ball if the Eagles are to walk away victorious this Sunday.
Trust The Coordinators
The talk surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles has been about them struggling on both ends of the field. But look at what they have achieved in just 3 games. The offense, despite being without AJ Brown, and a new OC in Kellen Moore is ranked 2nd in the NFL in Total Yards. Take this mindset in the game against the Bucs and the Eagles walk away 3-1.
The defense is not as bad as the media would suggest. The defense under Fangio is not lights out but they don’t break. If they can play as they did against the Saints, the Bucs will have a hard time waking away victorious. This game, like the others, is about trusting the process. Fangio has struggled at times with the right plays but if the Saints game was an indication of things to come, the defense is in good hands.
