Season 1 of Paradise has been a wild ride as far as twists and turns go. What happened that forced the government to decide who moves underground? While that’s still the mystery, we’re still trying to figure out who killed President Cal Bradford. The writers of Paradise did a great job of making it seem as if it was Billy Pace but we would learn it wasn’t him. And with that, that’s where Paradise made a huge error in their story.
Killing Pace off was a mistake for a few reasons. Yes, looking back at the flashbacks we noticed that he was a bit of a wild soul. But he had his reasons. However, Pace was not the same guy he was while still roaming the free world. He cared for something.
Every character with a major storyline on Paradise has their fair share of secrets, that’s the pull of the show. But killing Pace off before he had a chance at redemption, was not a good look at all. Xavier will be out for blood for what happened to his brother and when he learns that it was Jane who actually took him out, Xavier is going to lose his mind. He already knows that Sinatra is pulling all the strings so the vengeance he seeks is understood.
Billy’s death was unfair as the story has come to a point where violence is now the answer. This is what Billy was trained to do his entire life. Xavier needed Billy on his side for this mission. While Xavier is not a fan of Bradford, he still wants answers.
Later down the line, Billy’s death would have made better sense. But Billy never got a chance to explain any of his story to his friend. He never got a chance to save his niece and nephew. Where is his come to light moment? Then to have his girlfriend be the one to take him out was a bit cheesy. No, we didn’t see it coming but it doesn’t take away from the fact that it could have been written better.
Paradise has a chance to be a great show. Not sure how they will get a second season out of it but the first season has been full of great cliffhangers on each episode. Billy was a main character with a dark past and an even brighter future. He was a possible villain who turned good but viewers were robbed of a true redemption story.
