The Padres have announced Mike Shildt as their new manager. It came after last week’s passing of chairman Peter Seidler whose dream was to bring a championship to San Diego. That might bring some motivation to 2024 and bring a World Series Championship to San Diego for Peter.
Bob Melvin didn’t really connect with the Padres clubhouse and that showed throughout last season. He had a boring personality which showed throughout the season. What will Shildt bring? For starters, his resume is pretty good. He managed the Cardinals with a record of 252-199 in four seasons as manager of the Cardinals. He said at his press conference the other day he’s excited to get going
Can Mike Shildt Deliver A Championship?
He’s not the young manager I would’ve liked to have but he does have experience in the Padre system being an advisor for a couple of seasons. He was a mentor to Blake Snell, Juan Soto, and Fernando Tatis Jr. Shildt talked about working with A.J. Preller that there is only one goal in mind and that is a World Series.
A.J. is also excited and says Shildt has a ton of experience in the game.
The question would be who will the Padres sign? I think they should sign Blake Snell cause he was good even when they were losing last year. Juan Soto I doesn’t like San Diego so I think he will get traded. He made some comments last year that weren’t great. When the Padres traded for Soto it was to hopefully put them over the top. That didn’t happen and they ended up losing in the NLCS in 2021.
They need to add to their pitching and bullpen because that was clearly not enough last year. Even with that stacked lineup, they seemed disengaged. Hopefully with a new manager and because Peter Seidler unfortunately passed away they’ll be some motivation to bring a championship to San Diego.
