August 15, 2019 — The SF Giants and the Oakland A’s had another matchup on Wednesday afternoon in a beautiful rare heatwave for the Bay Area. Last night, the Giants (aka Madison Bumgarner) dominated on the mound; with 100 pitches in seven innings, he was a force to be reckoned with.
A’s pitcher Brett Anderson went pitch for pitch with Bumgarner, with 91 pitches and four strikeouts. He had his own rhythm going. In the end, the A’s were unable to score another run at the top of the ninth.
The A’s were leading the Giants 7-0 until the eighth inning. The Giants answered with their own five runs in the eighth but were unable to match the score when Matt Chapman hit another home-run to end the game.
Two new pitchers stepped in for today’s matchup. For the A’s, former Kansas City pitcher Homer Bailey pitched seven scoreless innings and singled twice (AP/ESPN.) For the Giants Tyler Beede allowed four runs and eight hits in his four innings (AP/ESPN.) These two teams lean on a strong pitching game to lead the way for their scoring. Anderson was strong Tuesday night, but Bumgarner was pitching his best. The curves Bumgarner threw made it hard for any of the top hitters, Chapman, Olsen, Davis, to complete a solid hit.
Wednesday afternoon Chapman hit a home run in the first to start off the scoring, and from there the A’s were in a rhythm of grounders, base hits, and homers. Hats off to Bailey’s pitching, he threw some fast curveballs to the corners and confused the men at-bat.

The battle of the Bay will continue next weekend on Aug. 24th and 25th in Oakland, Ca.
In the meantime, the A’s will battle the number one team in the AL West (A’s are second), the Houston Astros. Followed by the number one team in the East, the Yankees. Lucky for them both matchups are at home, and the pitching stats are better for the A’s in their home mound.
The Giants will travel to AZ to take on the Diamondbacks and then to Chicago to play the Cubs, who is number two in the NL Central.
