Teams that start 0-2 in the NFL have less than a 15% chance of making the playoffs.
5 Things we learned about week 2 in the NFL:
5) The Pack is Back!:
The Green Bay Packers are 2-0 after defeating the Minnesota Vikings,21-16. The Packers struggled in the 2nd half and didn’t score but Rodgers did enough to help his team go 2-0 in the NFC North. Against the Bears and Vikings, Green Bay gave up 19 total points. This defense could be an elite unit and with a healthy Rodgers, the Packers can win the NFC. The NFC North is known as the “Black and Blue” division and the Packers defense is living up to that nickname.
4) The Bills are the New York State Champions:
In their week 1 victory against the Jets, the Bills held “Gang Green” to 3.4 yards per attempt, from scrimmage. Buffalo held the Giants to 14 points in week 2. The Bills have a very underrated coaching staff and a very good defense. Josh Allen is now 43-67, for 507 passing yards. He continues to run the ball effectively and players and coaches seem to love his feistiness. The Bills are the best team in New York and could be a playoff team.
3) Colts continue to dominate the Titans:
The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Tennessee Titans Sunday,19-17. The Colts are now 14-2 over their last 16 games against the Titans. This game was the tale of two coaches. Frank Reich, an offensive coach, continued to be aggressive throughout the whole game. Mike Vrabel, a defensive coach, continued to be conservative. Reich played to win and Vrabel played not to lose. Over the past 5 years the NFL has become an offensive league. Last year’s AFC Championship Game had the New England Patriots at the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFC Championship Game had the LA Rams at the New Orleans Saints. They were the 4th best offenses in the NFL. Vrabel needs to evolve and become more aggressive offensively. If he doesn’t, his teams will be mired in mediocrity.
2) Is Dak Prescott the MVP of the NFL?
The Cowboys are 2-0 for the 2nd time in the last 10 seasons. Dak Pescott has been the best quarterback in the NFL. Prescott is 9-1 over his last 10 regular season games. In his first week victory of the Giants, Dak had a perfect completion rating of 158.3. He is only the 4th quarterback in the history of the NFL to attempt 30 or more passes and have a perfect passer rating. Ken O’Brien did this for the New York Jets, Kurt Warner did it for the St. Louis Rams and Jared Goff did it for the LA Rams in 2018. Over the past 3 seasons only Tom Brady has more wins than The former Mississippi State quarterback. Prescott is getting better every year and that is a scary thing for the rest of the NFC.
1) Has Kyle Shanahan turned the corner in San Francisco?:
For years, I have been hearing how great of a coach Kyle Shanahan is. But, you are what you record is. Coming into this season, he had a record of 10-22. The 49ers are 2-0. They defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 41-17 and accumulated 500 yards on offense for the first time in a game since 2012. The 49ers won their first two games on the road, on the east coast. They will now host the Steelers and Browns at home. This team could be 4-0 when they travel to LA to play the Rams on October 13th. Jimmy Garoppolo looked rusty in the first game of the season but he was 17-25 against the Bengals. He threw for 297 yards and had 2 touchdown passes.
Bonus coverage:
Russell Wilson could be the most underrated quarterback in the NFL. In two games, Wilson is 45-55 with 5 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. His QB rating is 134.5
The Steelers will be without Ben Roethlisberger for the rest of the season and Drew Brees will miss at least 6 weeks with a thumb injury. Both of these teams had Super Bowl aspirations coming into this season. I would be shocked if either makes the post-season. The Steelers traded away their number one pick in next year’s draft. This means they have all the confidence in the world in 2nd year quarterback Mason Rudolph, out of Oklahoma State.
ESPN”s Booger McFarland said on Monday Night that Adam Gase is an offensive guru. Either McFarland doesn’t do any prep work before the games or he doesn’t know what a guru means.
Gase’s team ranking in yards:
2016… Dolphins ranked 24th.
2017… Dolphins ranked 25th.
2018… Dolphins ranked 21st.
2019… Jets ranked 31st.
Jalen Ramsey wants a trade. The Jaguars are asking for a number 1 pick. If the Steeler gave up a number one pick for Minkah Fitzpatrick, the Chiefs, Patriots or Cowboys will give up a number 1 pick for Ramsey.
Daniel Jones will now be the starting quarterback for the New York Giants. This is the right move to do. Eli Manning was 22 games below .500 in his last 5 seasons.
