Well, 259 names were called over the three days of the NFL draft 2023. I certainly didn’t see all the deals that came and went on the first day of the draft. Have to hand the Cardinals a huge kudos for the way they moved their picks. No one had Seattle going with Devon Witherspoon either. The Houston Texans did what many thought would happen and selected CJ Stroud.
The Will Levis Deal
Folks no matter what you thought of Levis he did not deserve to be drafted in round one. Plain and simple, Levis instead found himself a new home in Tennessee with the Titans trailing Tannehill and Willis. Now some say he should have stayed in Kansas City and others are supporting his move out. I support him not staying. I disagree with bringing these players there outside of the top ten. He was also joined by four others who weren’t selected either. Leave them to be themselves.
The Dallas Cowboys?
Okay, I get taking Mazi Smith, the first true DT taken since Russell Maryland in 1991. Then you also added the 24-year-old Luke Schoonmaker TE from the same school? I have no affinity at all towards “That School Up North” and was surprised indeed that they went that way with the first two picks. They are also in a position where they didn’t need to satisfy anyone but themselves. Taking Chris Vaughn’s son Deuce Vaughn in round six was an ideal moment for the Vaughn family. That was one special moment in the NFL Draft 2023.
The AFC Teams
Man did I like the draft for the Bengals. They can get rid of Joe Mixon after getting Chase Brown. They really got the guys that were available at needs that needed to be addressed. You saw alot of teams try and answer they bell called by the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bills also drafted really well and you know these two teams are coming for Mahomes and company. The Ravens signed their quarterback and went after the guys they wanted to get him some help. Have to give the Browns and Broncos kudos for thei draft classes as well.
The NFC Teams
So let’s just hand the NFC Title to the Eagles right? Sorry not about to happen. The NFC teams will be just as active going after the Eagles after they drafted there two Georgia Bulldogs in round one. I’m going to let them celebrate there choices. Make no mistake folks the Giants also added a real good draft class and the Cowboys will be there as well. Not sure how the Detroit Lions went with a RB and LB in the first round and considering they also traded away Swift to the Eagles will be interesting to see what happens with the Lions going forward. The Falcons added Bijan Robinson at the eigth pick and we shall see what happens with him.
My Final Mock
As expected I was far off from my final mock draft article. Again folks a mock draft is only an exercise it’s not a predictive exercise at all. So i missed out on plenty of the trades. It always happens. See y’all next draft season.
