The New York Yankees are gearing up for the first homestand of the 2024 season. The Yankees will go against their division rival the Toronto Blue Jays starting today at 1:00!
New York Yankees Hot Start
The Yankees have started the season about as well as anybody could have imagined. They started their 2024 campaign in Houston to take on the hated Astros. After Nestor Cortes struggled early, giving Houston a 4-0 lead after the second inning, he was able to settle down and keep the Yankees in the game.
New York scored three in the 5th and one run each in both the 6th and 7th to take a 5-4 lead. It was Juan Soto’s Yankee debut and he made his presence felt both at the plate and in the field. Soto made a game-saving throw in the bottom of the 9th to preserve the lead and the game.

The Yankees carried that momentum to win the next three games in Houston, sweeping the Astros and getting the season off to a 4-0 start.
From Houston, the Yankees traveled to Phoenix to take on the defending National League Champion, the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Bronx Bombers jumped on the Diamondbacks early taking a 5-1 lead after the 3rd inning. They would make that stand up and win 5-2 jumping to 5-0 on the season.
The second game in Arizona would see the Yankees’ first slip-up of the season. Cortes struggled early again giving up 3 runs in the 1st inning. The Yankee bats could not get going against Zac Gallen and they would lose 7-0.
Looking to win the rubber game in Arizona, the Yankees turned to Carlos Rodon. Rodon pitched well for the Yankees and Aaron Judge hit his first home run of 2024. The game was 2-2 after 9 innings and so the game went into extra innings.
Alex Verdugo added his first Yankee home run to give the Bombers a 4-2 lead.

The Diamondbacks tied it back up in the 10th, but the Yankees finally won 6-5 in 11 innings. Thanks in large part to Soto, Oswaldo Cabrera, and Anthony Volpe the Yankees will come home at 6-1.
New York Yankees Bronx Bound
When the Yankees take on the Blue Jays this afternoon, Marcus Stroman will take the mound against one of his former teams. Stroman was born in New York and started his career with the Blue Jays in 2014. Stroman was traded to the New York Mets in 2019, though the Mets were not the New York team Stroman was seemingly hoping to get traded to.
Five years later Stroman will don the pinstripes for the first time in the Bronx. The northeast has seen rain for what feels like weeks one end coming into Friday, so hopefully the sun shines down for Opening Day in the Bronx.
