The New York Mets have started their season with a 3-1 record. They should have taken 4 straight games from the Washington Nationals but first baseman, Pete Alonso made two terrible throwing mistakes that let to Washington scoring 3 runs in the 8th inning on Sunday. The Nationals won, 4-2.
Buck Showalter:
It has only been 4 games, but you can see a difference in the Mets dugout and on the field. Buck Showalter brings a quiet intensity, leadership, and an adult in the room. Mets fans loved that he was the first one on the field when Francisco Lindor got hit with a pitch. Buck has a command of this team that we have not seen in years by New York managers.
The Oakland A’s connections:
- Mark Canha is red hot. He has 7 hits in his first 10 at bats.
- Starling Marte has 4 RBI in 3 games played. Over the past 3 seasons he has batted over .300, 3xs.
- Chris Bassitt is 1-0. He pitched 6 innings against the Nationals and struck out 8 to get his first win as a New York Met.
The Mets are a better team with these 3 players from Oakland.
Lindor will be back:
Francisco struggled last year but he should have a very productive season. I expect him to hit over 20 HR’s and drive in at least 80 runs.
This is a team that can compete for the division with the Atlanta Braves and should be a wild card team at minimum.
