Growing up, my dad and brothers were New York Jets fans. Naturally, I became a Jets fan. Like an arranged marriage, I had no choice. I was forced to love something, I knew nothing about. For 40 years I have rooted for “Gang Green.” For the past four decades, my mantra was…
Unfortunately, by week 5 or 6 that hope was always crushed.
During every pre-season, I had four thoughts. If we play good defense, run the ball and play well on special teams we have a chance to win 10 games.
I have never went into the season thinking we had a chance to make it to the Super Bowl.
All that changed last night. The Jets beat a bad Detroit Lions football team, 48-17.
For the first time in my life, the Jets have young, talented, skill position players.
- QB, Sam Darnold: 21-years-old, 16-21, 198 passing yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interceptions. The Former USC quarterback, had 5 incompletions. Matthew Stafford had 4 interceptions. He outplayed the Detroit quarterback.
- RB, Isaiah Crowell: 25-years-old, 10 carries, 102 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns.
- RB, Bilal Powell: 29-years-old, 12 carries, 60 yards.
- WR,Quincy Enunwa: 26-years-old, 6 catches, 63 yards, 1 touchdown.
- WR,Robby Anderson: 25-years-old, 41 yard touchdown pass.
I have never seen a Jets team with this much team speed.
“Gang Green” Scoring plays:
- 41-yard touchdown pass.
- 21 -yard touchdown pass.
- 36- yard interception return.
- 78-yard punt return.
- 62- yard run.
The Jets are not going to win the Super Bowl this year. They may not even make the playoffs. But, for the first time in my lifetime, we have an offense that can carry their team for the next 5 years.
