The New York Giants are getting their $40M leading man back when the Giants take on the Las Vegas Raiders this week. Will that be enough? Daniel Jones is returning for the Giants after missing the last 3 weeks due to a neck injury he suffered against the Miami Dolphins. In his absence, the G-Men went 1-3. This is good news considering what transpired in the rain against the other New York team at Metlife Stadium.
Tyrod Taylor was stable in Jones’ absence but when he went down, everything went downhill from there. The Giants’ passing attack managed -9 yards of offense. 3rd string QB, Tommy DeVito went 2-7. While the offense rode the legs of Saquon Barkley, it wasn’t enough as the Jets pulled out an overtime victory. Now it’s time for Jones to try to right the ship in what little time is left.
Heading into the game, the Giants sit at 2-6. While any repeat of last season’s surprising playoff run is out the window, that doesn’t mean that something can’t be salvaged setting up for next season. Jones was paid a huge deal of money last offseason and he must attack the rest of the year as if his career depended on the results. This is NYC where the media alone will run you out of town. If the Giants brass feels as if he was a waste of their money, some big changes could be coming in 2024.
Can The New York Giants Depend On Daniel Jones
For the New York Giants, this could be a game where the team can snag some confidence. The Raiders are going through hell themselves after an awful performance Monday night against the Detroit Lions. News broke Wednesday morning that the Raiders were cleaning house as they let go of their head coach, Josh McDaniels, OC Mick Lombardi, and GM David Ziegler.
In more Raiders news, it was announced the team will bench Jimmy Garoppolo and start backup Aidan O’Connell. The Giants’ defense should tee off against him and try to get something going. If Jones can come in and pick apart a Raiders defense giving up 23 points per game and 140 yards on the ground, the Giants have a shot.
Criticism has followed Daniel Jones his entire career in NYC and at a few times, the speculation was that the team would move on from him but were there any better options available? Teams were paying their QBs which left the Giants at a crossroads. However, no one envisioned the front office paying him $160M over 4 years. Now that he has that floating over his head, it’s time for Jones to start doing his part. That could begin this Sunday against a Raiders team in just as much turmoil as the New York Giants and their QB.
