Last week we heard from the top three quarterbacks in this year’s NFL draft at the scouting combine. Out of the three that spoke between Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye. The least likely the Patriots get is Williams. He is expected to get drafted By the Bears. I think Jayden Daniels to the Patriots is a smoke screen and will get drafted by the Commanders. This leaves Drake Maye to the Patriots which is the likely scenario. But there is another quarterback gaining steam JJ McCarthy from Michigan.
I saw McCarthy’s combine throwing session it was nothing special honestly, however, he and Maye have Mac Jones in them in my opinion. Do you know what the Krafts want the most? A franchise quarterback which they hope to get one in this year’s draft. They also want one that’s developed the right way. The Krafts don’t like the way Belichick developed Mac Jones sorry baby Patriot fans but that’s a fact.
The Krafts believe if they were to draft either Maye or McCarthy they would be developed the right way this time. It’s under new leadership. By developing Maye or McCarthy the right way in two or three years ownership can say we got it right this time we should’ve done a reset before we drafted Mac Jones in 2021.
Mac Jones is expected to be on a new team hopefully the 49ers or a team where he can get a real chance. Zappe is also expected to be gone hopefully to a irrelevant team like the Jaguars or Browns. The Kraft’s want a clean new vibe for the offense hopefully we get one.
Here was McCarthy’s answer last week about meeting the Patriots
Like I said there is nothing special about this kid from what I saw but the Kraft’s want an Mac Jones kind of quarterback like he or Maye so when he succeds they can turn it around and stick it to Bill Belichick down the road.
I don’t think Daniels will make it past the second pick. He is going to the Commanders period. Here was Maye’s answer last week about the Patriots.
Patriots fans need to realize that they are taking a quarterback at number three. It’s what ownership wants. Just this time it will be done the right way and whoever it is won’t play right away. Daniels is probably ready to play now and the Patriots don’t want that. They want someone who they can groom and be sure they do it right. It’s not the Belichick way it’s the Packer Way. The Packer Way is developing quarterbacks by having them sit behind a veteran for a season or two.
