You can say we have reached the halfway point of the NBA season. We have gotten a mixed bag so far due to injuries and teams underperforming. Young teams are giving contenders fits, stars are stuck on rosters that aren’t that good, and the trade deadline can’t come soon enough. Get ready for 3 months of hoops that is sure to leave us wanting more.
Young Stars Rising:
Jalen Green is becoming a leader and has the Houston Rockets standing as the number 2 seed in the west. They have a dynamic offense and improving defense. This current week is stacked with some of the best in the league. We will learn a lot about where this team stands against the upper class of the NBA.
My guilty pleasure watch team is without a doubt the Detroit Pistons and one of the main reasons is Cade Cunningham. Cade is making a name for not just himself but his squad. From leading them in scoring to setting up teammates. The Pistons should double their win total over last year and I would argue that Cunningham is an All-Star out east. Ausar Thompson is a freak athlete the mix of blossoming young kids and veteran’s is working.
Like any young team it will be how they maintain during a long season where things are always up and down.
Pushing through those tough times is part of becoming a contender leaving the feel good story area.
Who Makes A Move?
The Suns just stacked up more first round picks, the Thunder have more draft picks then God, an angry star in South Beach. All these signs should mean an active trade deadline, not to mention the Lakers, Warriors who NEED roster help. Most times we get hype for all sorts of madness and see little action, this year feels different setting up for a fun day. We have stars that can propel a team to greatness on the block. I would like to see Kevin Durant and Devin Booker get a 3rd option not named street clothes Bradley Beal. Jimmy Butler would be a nice pickup adding defense and someone who can create his own shot. Golden State has interesting young players the question is what do they get in return.
If I’m the New Orleans Pelicans I test the waters on the market for Zion Williamson. Does a change of scenery help him be the player we all thought he would be? The New York Knicks are having a good season but could they use another piece? Who gets Zach LaVine?
The Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers seem like they get up for the big games and are on cruise control for others. Clearly the class of East and contenders. In Cleveland it will be all about how they show up in the postseason. Boston needs to stay healthy and keep that hunger for another banner. I still have shaky feelings about a Cavs team that doesn’t have those playoff wounds from years past. The Celtics can’t fall in love with the three point shot and brick their way out of games.
Let me know what has your attention in the NBA this week.
