By Monte Perez:
The National Championship Game is set.
#1 Gonzaga will face off against #1 Baylor on Monday, April 5th, 2021, 9:20 PM on CBS TV.
The Baylor Bears dominated a good Houston Cougars team, 78-59. Baylor was up 45-20 at halftime. Their offense and defense physically manhandled the Cougars from start to finish. Baylor’s three guards can control a half or a game individually. Davion Mitchell had 12 points and 11 assists, Jared Butler had 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and MaCio Teague scored 11 points and had 6 assists against Houston. All three of these guards can create off the dribble for themselves or their teammates. Matthew Mayer provides scoring and rebounding off the bench. The 6’9 junior is averaging 9 points and 8 rebounds per game. He would start on hundreds of Division I basketball teams across the country.
The Gonzaga Bulldogs played one of the best Final Four games in the history of March Madness. Jalen Suggs hit a half court three-point shot to beat the UCLA Bruins, 93-90 in overtime. Drew Timme led Gonzaga with 25 points and 4 rebounds. Senior, Corey Kispert, Scored 15 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Joel Ayayi had 22 points and kept the Zags close in the first half.
Prediction:
These two teams are the best in the country. They both deserve to be in the Championship game. Gonzaga is #1 in the country, shooting 55% from the field and Baylor is #1 in the country, shooting 41% from three-point range. This is going to be a high scoring, fast paced contest. Both teams want to score in the 80s and they will. The last time a college basketball team went undefeated in a season and won the National Championship was the 1976 Indiana Hoosiers. Coached by Bobby Knight and Isiah Thomas.
